Disastrous stain on the carpet

Pleaser256 · 05/07/2019 21:07

Just posting for traffic as I am desperate

Made DS a banana milkshake yesterday. He is 3. We were sat on the sofa drinking it, out of nowhere he flung the entire contents onto the carpet. Zero fucks given!

I immediately took off the excess milk and banana with a white towel and scrubbed hard with my trusty anti bac wipes, which usually work on any stain on my carpet, but it’s barely touched it.

I put some vanish on it today and while it’s faded slightly, it’s still a massive beige monstrosity.

Any ideas?? 😣

Direct sunlight can sometimes bleach stains?

itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted · 05/07/2019 21:09

Probably need to hire a rug doctor - they've got them at B&Q and are like £30 for a weekend

Ineedhelptocope · 05/07/2019 21:10

Get the professionals in if it is as bad as you say

randomchap · 05/07/2019 21:12

My carpet is more stain than pattern. Covered it with rugs.

When the DC are old enough to be trusted not to spill stuff I'll put a new carpet down. That'll probably be in about 20 years

Does your home insurance cover accidental damage to carpets?

Pleaser256 · 05/07/2019 21:17

Thank you for your replies

I will check my home insurance, good tip. Failing that I will check out Rug Doctor. I definitely have to do something, I can’t bloody look at it! 😭

Amazon for a professional protein stsin remover then wash the carpet

PookieDo · 05/07/2019 21:18

It will stink. Trust me. Milk is the worst
Bicarbonate the crap out of that

00Sassy · 05/07/2019 21:18

Oh fuck!
I have no advice, I had to replace my carpet after I spilled chicken tikka mossala on mine Blush

Take the advice of pp. I can only suggest moving furniture to hide it and replacing!

Here WineCake < don’t spill this!

Howlovely · 05/07/2019 21:19

Have you tried saturating the carpet? What colour is it? I've saturated the stain and scrubbed with diluted bleach before but it was a pale carpet. It left a clean patch then though so still stood out among the rest of the carpet! 😁 Rug Doctors are quite good too if you've exhausted home-grown methods. Good luck!

Pleaser256 · 05/07/2019 21:26

It’s cream (I know...completely had it coming)
I used to be able to use bleach on it and it was fine (apart from the random white patches, which I’d learnt stand out much less when we don’t put the spot lights on!). But I used it last year for a stain and to my horror, the carpet turned red! I panicked and immediately washed it with water, which luckily worked but my god did it scar me for life about using bleach on the carpet.

Thank you for the tips, I will explore Amazon now

washing up liquid & cold water use j cloth work in circles outwards than rinse clear water

VictoriaBun · 05/07/2019 21:33

One year we hired a cottage for Christmas. One evening I managed the tip a full glass of red wine over the carpet . The cottages miles from anywhere and as Christmas not many shops open. Tried to clean it up as best as possible but tbh nothing was shifting it.
Once the shops were open , got a spray of something that mentioned red wine. Used it and then that bit was really clean but made the rest of the carpet look filthy !

Lolwhat · 05/07/2019 23:05

Get a wet vax, bit of an investment but no doubt you will have lots of stains in the future and it will save your life

Geegle · 05/07/2019 23:08

Try Dr Beckmann carpet cleaner. It gets most stains out easily www.amazon.co.uk/Dr-Beckmann-Remover-Cleaning-Applicator/dp/B006ZMNWYS?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

rose789 · 05/07/2019 23:13

Cover it in bicarb over night and Hoover it up in the morning. It’ll help absorb the smell. Then spray with elbow grease leave on for 5 minutes and then scrub with a white cloth. Then clean with hot soapy water.
Worked for chocolate milkshake on my aunties cream carpet when she gave my 2 year old a giant McDonald’s cup to have a taste with no lid or straw Hmm

Pleaser256 · 11/07/2019 22:24

@Geegle I ordered the Dr Beckmann cleaner and it’s worked a treat! It’s barely noticeable now. Thank you so much and for all of the other suggestions x
