18 year old ds had a difficult tooth extraction 4 days ago and has ended up in with dry socket the hole at the extraction site seems to be getting bigger. He is now away in corfu with no dentist close by.
He saw his own dentist day before flying and she told him to gargle with saltwater and prescribed antibiotics and applied a medicated dressing which has now dissolved.

He isn't experiencing much pain but he is worried about how the extraction site is looking

Shock all I can say is I had a dry socket and the pain was awful. Salt water will help and pain killers until he can see a dentist

When did he get the antibiotics / start them? When did it get dressed? Which antibiotic and what strength has he been given?

Sally150 · 05/07/2019 22:14

He got them on Wednesday amoxicillin 500mg

Had it at least 3 times. It’s bad, awful, excruciating but once you’re on anti’bs you just have to wait it out :(

He can ask the rep or the hotel for advice on finding a dentist. Or search the trip advisor forum - I bet this comes up a lot.

The antibiotics take 36- 48 hours to get fully into his system. Keep on with salt mouthwashes, teaspoon of salt, tumbler of warm water as hot as he can stand it without burning himself. Try to do after every meal. Does he have any medical problems? If not alternate paracetamol and ibuprofen every 3-4 hours. Do not take more than recommended dose in 24 hours. May need to see a dentist if no improvement in 24hrs for redressing. Do not smoke it makes it worse and alcohol affects the bodies healing.
