God I fucking hate this saying.

OP posts:

@sar302 based on my years of mumsnet I’ve come to the conclusion that those comparing formula to McDonald’s are probably trolls.

sar302 · 05/07/2019 19:34

Very possibly! But they're the thick end of a wedge that very definitely exists.

lolaflores · 05/07/2019 19:42

I squirmed when someone I know said her ds still needed boob aT night. He was 6.
All for extended feeding erc but boob and a 6 year old feels very odd

lolaflores · 05/07/2019 19:44

Tit?

PleaseGoToSleeep · 05/07/2019 19:45

Hate it. Was feeding the baby in the car at school pick up. One of the mums walked by "oooh having some boobie" 🤮

lolaflores · 05/07/2019 19:46

I scrolled through the other thread. I feel that women who di t breat feed for whatever reason s, do get held up for examination bu those who dor or did and believe they invented it.
I dont honestly think the reasons matter, it simply makes them feel warm and fuzzy about their own boob skills

lolaflores · 05/07/2019 19:50

I need to apologise for my typing. The post sounds like I'm on a very poor phone connection. Every second word is nonsense
I do apologise

bobstersmum · 05/07/2019 19:54

I'm boobing right now so you can all seethe and hiss, I care not a shite! I hope boobing makes it into the dictionary.

MrMakersFartyParty · 05/07/2019 20:01

Not seething, just repulsed.

Merename · 05/07/2019 20:01

@Howlovely - definitely not offended, people can get irritated by whatever terms they wish, but that was just my wee theory about why so many people here are using terms like ‘gross’ and ‘revolting’. I do think there’s a lot of revulsion for breastfeeding out there which is fine, people can think what they like, but it’s a shame as I think that’s what boobs are for. Maybe you could help me understand, what’s revolting about ‘boobing all night’?

bobstersmum · 05/07/2019 20:03

Repulsed that I'm using said boobs for the reason they were intended?

Celebelly · 05/07/2019 20:04

I don't use it as a verb but I will say that my DD needs or wants boob sometimes. It's not necessarily the same as saying she needs milk as sometimes she just wants boob for comfort.

ethelfleda · 05/07/2019 20:05

Ladies - it’s fine to breastfeed your babies. For the love of god do NOT talk about it though.
All women who breastfeed think they’re superior after all Hmm

BumandChips · 05/07/2019 20:09

A friend of mine once said they’d made their baby a ‘booby lolly’. I mean, FFS. Hmm

MamaFlintstone · 05/07/2019 20:09

What is it about breastfeeding that makes you uncomfortable about saying breastfeeding though? That’s what boobing implies to me, that you’re embarrassed to say breast so you’ve come up with these twee little expressions to cover it up.

Minxmumma · 05/07/2019 20:11

How random don't think I have ever heard it used as a verb....... and I do bf and wouldn't use it. What is wrong with fed? Do we need to incorporate a method.... I just forked my toddler some pasta...... Confused

However I did greet the postman delivering a signed for parcel with phrase " Fab you've bought my new boob in time!" (I only have one and a bit these days sigh....)

bobstersmum · 05/07/2019 20:12

Nope, not embarrassed to say breastfeeding either!

pisspawpatrol · 05/07/2019 20:15

It is ridiculous when people say they boobed the baby. It makes me think they've just smacked the baby over the head with one of their breasts.

MrMakersFartyParty · 05/07/2019 20:16

I know you'd love for me to be repulsed by breastfeeding bobster, but no, I breastfed 3 children and I am on the breastfeeding support team, it's just a gross way to say it and I've never heard an actual human being say it. Then again most of the people I know who feed their children don't say "I just baked beansed Joe" or "I just apatamilled the baby" because they don't want to broadcast that I guess.

Babdoc · 05/07/2019 20:20

I think it’s possibly a generational thing. I don’t recall boob ever being used as a verb when my DC were born, nearly 30 years ago.
Mind you, I used mixed breast/bottle feeding and used to cringe when DH regularly scooped up our crying baby and jokingly said that she wanted to go down the Tit and Bottle, her favourite pub! Annoyingly, it stuck as a phrase, until I weaned her at 8 weeks.

MustBeAWeasly · 05/07/2019 20:29

What's wrong with it? Someone explain exactly why they hate it so much. I don't see anything wrong with it 🤷‍♀️

MamaFlintstone · 05/07/2019 20:32

Because it’s a noun being used as a verb. I footed to the shops. No, you walked.

lolaflores · 05/07/2019 20:32

Boob sounds silly. A silly word for important things. As someone said...twee.
Bitty comes to mind

WalkofShame · 05/07/2019 20:36

MustBeAWeasley

Makes me cringe, it sounds infantile and a bit sinister. Also quite pretentious.

Fantababy · 05/07/2019 20:36

Because it’s a noun being used as a verb. I footed to the shops. No, you walked.

Was just about to post this. It's not the action itself that upsets people - it's the poor use of English. Wink
