God I fucking hate this saying.

No one is saying anything about shaming breastfeeding mothers. They are however complaining about the awful use of the word boob as a verb instead of a noun.

TwinkleWings · 05/07/2019 14:21

Language evolves.

fussychica · 05/07/2019 14:23

Awful.
Thankfully I've never heard it said and never even seen it on here before, but then I don't generally read baby threads.

feelingverylazytoday · 05/07/2019 14:24

Turquoise I agree, no one should be shamed. At the same time, everyone should be entitled to their opinions, and trying to close threads down just smacks of censorship to me.
AIBU is quite brutal at times, but I feel this should be a forum where women can express themselves freely, even if it does upset some people.

I think I’ve used it once or twice in an awkward “I don’t know what to say here” moment and wished to take it back! The postman came but DC was on the boob so I couldn’t get to the door. Weird but accurate phrase haha!

Xxalisoncxx · 05/07/2019 14:24

First time I’ve ever heard this phrase, I won’t be saying it!

PhalangeReginaPhalange · 05/07/2019 14:25

Oh it’s not shaming here surely, it’s just I like/dislike a phrase!

AnnieOnAMapleLeaf · 05/07/2019 14:29

No one is shaming anyone! FGS, people aren't allowed to have an opinion on anything without being accused of shaming someone. We're talking about the use of a specific phrase - no one is being judged or shamed. Hmm

InsertFunnyUsername · 05/07/2019 14:31

I see regularly on my FB from one woman

"Mummy is having a couple of wines and the baby is on booby milk🎉"

I dont understand that myself, you wouldn't post for example "Home with DH having a couple of drinks, timmy has had a glass of OJ😊"

Saying that, some people would.

IgotApositive · 05/07/2019 14:33

I also hate bobbie monster 🙈

CottonSock · 05/07/2019 14:39

No one is shaming, it just sounds horrible

MostlyAmbridgeandcoffee · 05/07/2019 14:39

Agree!!

bobstersmum · 05/07/2019 14:42

If a baby is ff then you give them a bottle, if they're bf you give them a boob, so....?

tenthstreet · 05/07/2019 14:51

Yes I've definitely heard of it in real life. Almost daily in fact.

I'm definitely not shaming anybody, I just hate that fucking phrase

OP posts:
floribunda18 · 05/07/2019 14:51

It's revolting when used about feeding a baby.

I would use it humorously, to mean you accidentally knocked against someone with your boobs. "Sorry, I boobed you there."

floribunda18 · 05/07/2019 14:52

If a baby is ff then you give them a bottle, if they're bf you give them a boob, so....?

Exactly! Saying you "bottled" the baby would have quite a different and wrong meaning!

jollyohh · 05/07/2019 15:03

I don't see the problem with it 🤷‍♀️

Just a common breastfeeding term

Aqueo517 · 05/07/2019 15:05

This has made me chuckle. Id forgotten that I used to say this, only to DH. I used to ‘boob’ DS back to sleep, thought I was being mildly amusing in my sleep deprived state.

Aqueo517 · 05/07/2019 15:07

‘Boob’ say it a few times fast, it’s one of those words that starts to sound really weird and loses all meaning.

DCIRozHuntley · 05/07/2019 15:08

"Boobed" as a verb means messed up or made a mistake to me. Not sure if that's a regional thing.

"Boobing" in terms of breastfeeding is not something I've ever heard in real life.

littlepaddypaws · 05/07/2019 15:13

dislike the expressions boobing the baby, boob juice urgh, but everyone to their own.it just sounds a bit...Envy def not envy. never heard it in rl and really hope i never do.

Treaclesweet · 05/07/2019 15:27

I use it all the time. Fight me.

Sandybval · 05/07/2019 15:28

I agree, but then it also annoys me when people put BBQ instead of barbecue.

littlepaddypaws · 05/07/2019 15:29

milk bottles and boobs at 12 paces treacle ! Grin

Treaclesweet · 05/07/2019 15:29

I think you're being a bit puritanical tbh. Boob is what the baby has there's no avoiding it and it's a pretty inoffensive term. Breast sounds very Victorian to me.
