YANBU, I think it's a bit too early. After 8am is okay. I felt bad this morning as I forgot to take bins out last night and had to do it this morning at 7.30am. I have never wheeled my wheelie bin so slowly up my drive before in an effort to not make too much noise...

Al203 · 05/07/2019 11:41

Goodness! The day is half over by 8am.

I shall be outside at 5am tomorrow and will be cutting my lawn by 6am. It takes about 2.5 hours and at 9am I shall sit outside and have breakfast.

Florrieboo · 05/07/2019 11:44

It is early, but not as early as our neighbour who mows his lawn at 6:30am in the summer, and most notably on Christmas day and also the day we were heading away on a long haul flight at 5pm that evening. I would like if the kids had a little more sleep that morning with 30 hours of travel ahead of them.

He is particularly annoying though because half way through mowing he goes off and does other things while leaving the mower running. He has a postage stamp garden but finds a way. We live across the road from him so I have to imagine that he has had a falling out with one or other of the neighbours on either side of him.

Screamanger · 05/07/2019 11:47

It’s not too early, the sun is up. Of course some people work shifts but you can’t please everyone.

then I hope your neighbours will have a loud party until 4am because they want to make the most of the summer nights.

works both way.

I am sure you will tell us that you have no neighbour in a 5 miles radius

Unless you live far enough away from any neighbours to be out of earshot, that is remarkably inconsiderate.

Yes. Nearest neighbour is about a mile away. Grin

bingbongnoise · 05/07/2019 15:55

Oh FGS, not ANOTHER one of these? 🙄

@Scoobydoobywho

YABU, not everyone's lives revolve around your needs, wants, and whims.......

At every point in the day, there is going to be SOMEONE trying to sleep or rest; peoples lives can't just stop because someone may be in bed at 8am, 10am, midday, 3pm, 5.30pm, 8pm, or even 10pm.

Loads of people mow the lawn between 8.30pm and 10pm here, (during June, July, and August,) when the sun is going down/has gone down, and it's perfectly acceptable. It's just a sound of the summer, along with children playing, and birds singing... Anyone who is crowing about it, probably moans about everything, so armholes to them, is what I say!

StoneofDestiny · 05/07/2019 16:21

Not unreasonable. Get garden chore done and get on with the day.

Planesmistakenforstars · 05/07/2019 16:38

I think before 8 is too early on a weekday, and totally unreasonable at the weekend. As a gardener, I don't start mowing/hedge cutting until 8.30, although I changed that to 8 during last summer's heatwave.

wowfudge · 05/07/2019 17:05

Well this thread prompts a question: @Scoobydoobywho where are you?

flirtygirl · 05/07/2019 18:15

If I had a neighbour that did it before 8 I would ask them never to again. Of they did it again then I would make noise when I'm awake late ie midnight.

If they can't be considerate then I would not be either.

It's all about consideration of others and it works both ways.

If your neighbours have no problem with you doing so then crack on.

PookieDo · 05/07/2019 18:43

Argh these threads make my head explode

This is a minor irritation that winds some people up but it’s not illegal, it’s within the defined times outside of 11pm-7am and they are not doing anything technically wrong. It might annoy some people, but it probably doesn’t actually affect you in any way. I think it’s also not really a moral issue and for people who have real and true issues with serious noise this is kind of petty.

that25cUKHeatwaveof2019 · 05/07/2019 18:53

There are countless nuisance that are not illegal, but showing a bit of respect to your neighbours make such a difference in your quality of life.

Just read all the threads from people having neighbours from hell, see how pleasant it is when everybody is a selfish entitled git.

YoThePussy · 05/07/2019 19:28

I have church bells from 2 different churches within ear shot. I love them and open the windows to hear them better. I can also hear people singing in the chapel at the end of my garden which is lovely too. Much better that than the dreary drunks singing The Woodpecker’s Hole tunelessly all the way home.

randomchap · 05/07/2019 19:41

Cutting grass in the early morning can be quite harmful to the grass and cause fungal infections according to this site

Early morning mowing is perhaps the worst time to mow. Morning dew will likely be covering the grass. This can make it hard on your mower, and cause the grass to be cut poorly. This can cause the grass to tear. Here's the deal torn, wet grass is the perfect entryway for disease and fungus's to infect your grass.

StoneofDestiny · 05/07/2019 22:11

I'd be more annoyed if someone never cut their grass and let their garden become an eyesore!
Cotton wool in the ears or double glazing will shut out such short term noise that is likely only to be once a week.

Al203 · 05/07/2019 22:55

Fake news @randomchap
