YANBU. There's a difference between being up and about by 8 and making enough noise to disturb neighbours by that time. It's called being considerate. Unfortunately these days most people aren't.

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 05/07/2019 08:49

Not on a weekday, surely most people are at work by then anyway?

I start work at half 7 and that is far too early. Anything before 9 on any day is too early imho

Last year we had to do ours that early because of the heat. Today is due to be another hot one isn’t it.

CherryPavlova · 05/07/2019 08:54

Drives us bananas when a neighbour starts strimming and mowing the adjacent graveyard at 7am just as we want to enjoy our tea and chat in bed. He doesn’t even enjoy doing it. It looks much prettier slightly overgrown and less suburban anyway.

LadyRannaldini · 05/07/2019 08:57

The grass will be damp and it could be damaged by cutting, leave it until the evening,

LeglessGiraffe · 05/07/2019 08:58

YANBU. We live next to playing fields and once a week throughout spring and summer they start mowing at 6.45am. Residents have complained but it hasn't made any difference yet! Anytime after 8am would be fine though.

RaininSummer · 05/07/2019 09:02

Too early. You can't assume neighbours operate to the same time frame as yourself. Maybe they work weekends and get up later on weekdays. After 9 is OK.

snitzelvoncrumb · 05/07/2019 09:04

Yes any day of the week. I once read on a forum a neighbour mowing from 7 every Sunday morning, the person found an old CD and cd player and put the power of love on repeat outside near the fence for the reminder of the day. Maybe try that.

dudsville · 05/07/2019 09:06

Our binmen come at 6.45 am. Weekdays have a different etiquette.

wobytide · 05/07/2019 09:09

If you work how can you have time to do it and if you don’t work surely you have all day?!

I hate to break this to you but some jobs don't actually cover 9-5. Sending thoughts and prayers at this tough time.

YoThePussy · 05/07/2019 09:11

I work on the time basis mentioned upthread of council allowed work times so wouldn’t do anything noisy in the garden before 8am.

Where I lived before one family’s kids used to be out playing in the back garden (and screaming) at 5.30am. I spoke to the father who said they were awake, my response was I don’t want to be. It stopped!

kateandme · 05/07/2019 09:11

mainly no because then youve got people like my brother either in bed or getting read for work and it blowing hayfever into his window so he goes to work streaming and in agony.
these type of things to do with social or noise etc id say nothing before 9

that25cUKHeatwaveof2019 · 05/07/2019 09:17

Before 9am is rude, and before 10am is even rudder on a weekend.

I know it's legal, but when everyone is considerate to their neighbours, everyone has a more pleasant life.

I am up at 6am usually, but my neighbours have a right to sleep later if they wish!

EL8888 · 05/07/2019 09:17

@wobytide lm well aware of that from a career of earlies, lates, nights and 13 hour shifts. Buy the majority of people do 8-4 / 9-5 / 9-6

QuarterMileAtATime · 05/07/2019 09:18

I would have agreed with you a few years ago. Where I live now though, outer London borough, all tradesmen seem to start work at 7.45 and finish at 3.45.

notacooldad · 05/07/2019 09:18

Well seeing the there is construction work going on at the back of my house every weekday morning from 7.00am and 8.00am every weekend and bank holiday which includes largest trucks, excavating ma Hines, concrete breakers etc and will be like this for the next 35 weeks an odd lawn mower instead would be great!!!
With your point though, in all seriousness a lawn mower at that time wouldnt bother me.
Anything after 7.00am and before 11pm is within acceptable noise boundaries time zones.
I normally sleep late and go to bed late but accept the rest of the world is normally up and doing things.

TixieLix · 05/07/2019 09:19

Not on a weekday, surely most people are at work by then anyway?

Here's a shocker - not everyone works 9-5, not everyone works Mon-Fri, some people are retired, some people have been up all night with crying babies - there's a whole host of reasons why before 8am is too early for some. I would not make noise outside before 8:30/9am personally, or would coordinate it for 'bin day' as people are being disturbed early that day anyway.

TeacupDrama · 05/07/2019 09:19

builders can start noisy work at 8am so I think before 8am on a weekday is not ok after 8am is fine most people have to be at work or school by 9 so will be up at 8 lots of people start work at 8am
you should not cut grass on hot days in the middle of day so it should be early or late
YABU at 8am if it was 7am YANBU

NameChangeNugget · 05/07/2019 09:19

YABU

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 05/07/2019 09:19

Weekday is fine.

Pinkmalinky · 05/07/2019 09:20

Fine on a weekday, the majority of people are awake at this time anyway and plenty of other noises going on outside. Someone on my street was doing it just before 8am yesterday and I barely noticed.

Ijustwanttoretire · 05/07/2019 09:23

I would happily cut my lawn at that time as I am up early - tell you what - I won't cut my grass at 8am if you don't have parties/barbecues until 11pm.
