to be mowing your lawn.

OP posts:
Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 05/07/2019 09:25

On a weekday I think that's ok, especially in hot weather where people don't want to be toiling in the sun.

reluctantbrit · 05/07/2019 09:27

I think it depends. All around us people have either school age children or are off to work before 8am. If it would get very hot I may would do it. Saying that I was under the impression the lawn is too wet to get properly mowed early in the day.

But if I know I have people with a baby, shift worker, elderly (who based on my experience are often up at the crack of dawn themselves) I wouldn’t do it unless I hear them first,

Missillusioned · 05/07/2019 09:28

It depends on your lawnmower tbh. There are low noise electric versions available these days and they aren't too annoying at all. Some old petrol driven mowers can be absolutely deafening and are anti social at almost any time!

I wouldn't have thought the grass is suitable for cutting very early in the morning though. You need to wait for the dew to dry off.

Guavaf1sh · 05/07/2019 09:28

8am is fine - that’s when work starts for many and if you’re still in bed at 8 on a weekday count yourself very lucky!

newmomof1 · 05/07/2019 09:29

It's no noisier than the bin men, so perfectly acceptable IMO

whothedaddy · 05/07/2019 09:32

I think If it's later than the bin men it's ok. Bin lorry's make far more noise than a lawn mower.

Who sleeps past 7am this time of year anyway when it's so bright out.

northbacchus · 05/07/2019 09:32

Way too early. After nine! Had a neighbour, growing up, that used the strimmer at 7am on a Sunday before Church. Angry

theunrivalledjoysofparenting · 05/07/2019 09:46

Too early. I think any time after school run (8.45) is ok... as most people will be up.

Livelovebehappy · 05/07/2019 09:46

Not sure really. TBH, we have a few households round here with yapping dogs who think it’s ok to let them out at 6.00 in the morning, so a lawn mower joining in with the yapping probably wouldn’t make too much of a difference with me, but depends I guess on whether you get other noisey stuff happening where you live that early.

coconuttelegraph · 05/07/2019 09:49

Some people don't seem to understand that others aren't all like them.

Of course everyone isn't up for work at that time, it's not the 1950s, there are all kinds of work patterns

notacooldad · 05/07/2019 09:53

Me but general outdoor noise doesnt bother me.

EdtheBear · 05/07/2019 09:55

Coconut of course there are all sorts of work patterns. So doing it at 8am may well mean that person has just finished a night shift and wants to do it before going to bed.

If everybody was to think I can't do something during day time in case somebody's sleeping nobody would get any thing done.

8am is normally a for people getting kids out to school. Getting out to work or in from work, depending on shifts.

DerelictWreck · 05/07/2019 09:58

Afterthought: our bin men come round at about 7.30, making a god-awful racket.

You're lucky. Ours come round at 6am/6:30 5 days a week Shock

Idontwanttotalk · 05/07/2019 10:00

I think it's fine. I used to catch 7.30 a.m. bus to school, rush hour traffic is 7.30 - 8.30 a.m. so don't see a problem with it.

coconuttelegraph · 05/07/2019 10:01

That's my point, someone above said it's fine because everyone will have gone to work, that's not true so can't be a justification.

Anyway it's a pointless discussion as some will think it's fine. some won't and unless we are all the neighours of the person doing the mowing - so what?

CoffeeCoffeeTea · 05/07/2019 10:03

General construction work starts at 8am Mon to Sat, so I guess it's acceptable to mow the lawn at 8. Any earlier is a bit unreasonable

floribunda18 · 05/07/2019 10:04

Its fine any day except Sunday I'd say.

user1497787065 · 05/07/2019 10:05

Questions like these always divide opinion. I had a man in to cut our hedges a few weeks ago. He started at 7.30am when it is cooler with temperatures expected in the high 20s later in the day. I see that would have upset a number of you. We all have different time clocks. Any noise after 6am I would consider to be ok but for some even 9am is seen as unacceptable.

JMoore · 05/07/2019 10:43

Where I live, the law is that on weekdays noise from 7.30 am is allowed. Last year, when we had some work done in our garden, the landscapers started their machinery (including diggers and other heavy machinery) at 7.30 am on the dot every morning. Same when they were working on neighbouring gardens. Builders start work at the same time. Perfectly normal.

Now, the bin trucks coming before 6 am sometimes, that's early.

poisonivybee · 05/07/2019 10:43

YANBU at the weekend. Though if they want to make noise, I'd choose lawn mowing over church bells (they ring them every sunday morning near me and I used to live in a single glazed house), tennis coaching a group of kids (I live next to a tennis courts and the tennis instructor has a ridiculously loud voice), and someone riding their motorbike up and down the road for half an hour (I really don't understand why someone did this, it was in the evening when I was trying to put my kid to bed, I felt so sorry for her, it was really warm in her room and you could hear it through a closed window anyway, 8am is preferable to 8pm for this)

That said, if they're super busy and it's got to the point they couldn't walk through it anymore and they can't afford to pay someone to cut it for them then maybe it's okay? Although, I don't know why people love perfectly cut lawns, I would rather have a wild flower garden out back, but alas, landlords are butt heads. Maybe they've got a house inspection by the estate agent and they need to do a last minute emergency moe?

I'd assume 8am on a warm sunday/saturday morning is someone purposely wanting anyone with a hangover to suffer tbh. On a week day, I'd assume they have odd shifts and a complex life that I'd never understand (or they're retired and have assumed everyone's up at 8am) and I wouldn't mind.

TheCatThatDanced · 05/07/2019 10:46

On a weekday I think before 8am is rude - you don't know which neighbours wake up when to go to work!

Cornball · 05/07/2019 10:49

Yeah rude, we're not all Mon-Fri 9-5, a weekend doesn't mean anything to us just another shift. I work nights and it's absolute hell to go to sleep at 4am and be woken at 7.45 to a lawnmower, feels like torture. I think it's considerate to remember people work different hours and to do it at a decent time, just incase

Ponoka7 · 05/07/2019 10:50

Deliveries, bin men, workies, kids starting out for school etc start at 8.

So gardening and noise in the street should be put off until then.

lottieleo · 05/07/2019 10:53

Do you live by me 😂 a few of my neighbours pay to get it done and he comes fortnightly between 6am-8am 😩throughout the summer

coconuttelegraph · 05/07/2019 11:28

Ponoka7 - where do you live? My binmen come at 6.30am, I assume at least half of their round is probably earlier than 8 and I regularly get deliveries around 7am
