Is really shit. Haven’t they heard of the me too campaign? Who approved this? AIBU on thinking this is wrong on so many levels.

AIBU to think this Poundland baby vest...
OP posts:
PositiveVibez · 04/07/2019 21:46

Was there a pink version too? I wonder what that would have said?

Probably something as equally crass such as 'Hello Boys'

I agree it's horrible OP and I certainly wouldn't let any son of mine wear this. If I seen a boy in one, I'd probably pity the fact his parents were divvys.

chocolatemademefat · 04/07/2019 21:46

Sense of humour breakdown!

Genderwitched · 04/07/2019 21:46

It's grim and offensive. It wouldn't be coming anywhere near a child of mine.

Mumofone1858 · 04/07/2019 21:48

My worst are the baby grows that say 'mummy only wanted a backrub', I don't know who buys them but I hope they don't take photos for the child to see when they grow up!

starzig · 04/07/2019 21:49

And mumsnet most melodramatic post of the day goes to......

Cheeserton · 04/07/2019 21:49

Ah well, as long as it's a 'long-standing saying' that's alright then? Like other 'long-standing' traditions like racism and sexism in general. That's fine then. Hmm

Jaxhog · 04/07/2019 21:50

I don’t think it’s ever appropriate to suggest that females should be ‘Locked up’ to avoid unwarranted attention.

This.

By itself, it may not seem like much, but its part of the 'pick, pick, pick' that erodes girls and women's confidence.

ShowMeTheKittens · 04/07/2019 21:51

It's a pound?Flaming Norah I object to the sweatshop slaves more than the slogan

EstuaryBird · 04/07/2019 21:51

Couple of years back I saw a 5 year old girl who lives near me in a T shirt that said ‘No Money, No Honey’. I live through the 70s, I’m not easily shocked but this one really got to me Angry

Deuxcaggages · 04/07/2019 21:51

Erm..in my world this saying means someone is attractive and Ive heard it applied to both sexes. I’ve never heard anyone use it to suggest someone has uncontrollable urges, that necessitate the locking up of unsuspecting members of the opposite sex.
Fucking ‘ell.

BertieBotts · 04/07/2019 21:53

It's sexist
It's heteronormative (I suppose you could put it on a girl, but clearly not the intention)
It's promoting the idea that either men or women are unable to control their lust, which is pretty shit either way you interpret it TBH
It's promoting the idea that adult females are the property of their parents
And yes it is sexualising a baby.

Also the design is too low down to be seen if you put trousers on the baby, that always annoys the crap out of me with vests.

firstimemamma · 04/07/2019 21:54

Don't like it, don't buy it.

ChaChaDeGregorio · 04/07/2019 21:54

YANBU. It's sexist in a way that degrades both sexes and it's inappropriate.

Deuxcaggages · 04/07/2019 22:00

Bertiebotts. It really isn’t.
Ive heard the saying applied to both attractive males and females.

I find it more offensive that the op is supporting sweatshop and exploitative working conditions, by shopping in Poundland.

DinosaursWouldEatYou · 04/07/2019 22:03

YABU

princessTiasmum · 04/07/2019 22:07

PC gone too far on this thread, why does everything these days have to mean something bad
It means nothing except he will be a heart breaker, he is a good looking baby' who will grow up to be a good looking boy
People used to say this about my son when he was a toddler. as he had [still has] stunning blue eyes and long lashes
It does not mean anything sexual

salsmum · 04/07/2019 22:08

I once saw a pair of underpants with the slogan 'contents may rise due to inflation' .... they were pants for small boys! 🤢🤮

Allhailthesun · 04/07/2019 22:09

I had this slogan in a t shirt for my son from a swanky boutique in soft cotton and gold glitter ( gifted by a friend), I loved it as it was probably the coolest thing he owed.
He was and is a very handsome child. I took it to mean he would be a heartbreaker, rather than a preditory male.

Cheeserton · 04/07/2019 22:10

'lock up your daughters' applied to women? Not heard that in my life. Odd claim indeed.

EdWinchester · 04/07/2019 22:11

It’s tacky, certainly.

I was in A&E with my son once and a girl (about 6) was wearing a T-shirt adorned with ‘Future WAG’. Both tacky and depressing, I thought.

ragged · 04/07/2019 22:13

I like it. I can be partial to a bit of tat.

Blankiefan · 04/07/2019 22:16

YADNBU. But you'll get a lot of shit on this thread from posters who think otherwise. Don't listen - look at the numbers- so far 2/3rds of people who have voted agree with you. These "small", "insignificant" things have a drip drip drip affect on society and need to be challenged. You are right.

federationrep · 04/07/2019 22:17

My aunt bought DS a bib that said "granny magnet". Her & DM (granny!) thought it was adorable but then I doubt either of them had heard of a fanny magnet

soulrunner · 04/07/2019 22:17

Very Hugo

roses2 · 04/07/2019 22:20

I'm more disturbed in Poundland selling an item for £1.50 Shock
