Is really shit. Haven’t they heard of the me too campaign? Who approved this? AIBU on thinking this is wrong on so many levels.

Have you seen the "Granny magnet" top?

Passthecherrycoke · 04/07/2019 21:26

That’s so fucking stupid and grim

chickensdontpocktheypeck · 04/07/2019 21:27

Are you going to take it to the papers with a sad face

Sux2buthen · 04/07/2019 21:29

The thing is, anyone old enough to read it won't care. The baby is hardly going to read it and to be honest I barely glance at what people's tops say.
I have a set of maternity pyjamas that I still wear despite being a few months out of pregnancy. I ordered them from eBay and they came from China. My son recently asked what's written on them and upon looking we realised it says 'how dreams now hug hard' Confused
Nobody had read it before lol. And I have worn them a lot. A lot a lot lol

Eggproducer · 04/07/2019 21:29

@chickensdontpocktheypeck

In the grand scheme of things, no of course it doesn't matter.

In the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter that that ironing toy over there is pink. Or that science kit is blue.

A cheeky message on a t-shirt that suggests men are predatory and girls are victims isn't that important. Neither is the one that says, "Maths is hard for girls" or the girls' babygro that says "Do my thighs look big in this?"

But put it all together and we are not exactly setting our children off on a path to equality are we?

that25cUKHeatwaveof2019 · 04/07/2019 21:30

Institutionalised sexism, cementing gender roles of men (boys?) as predatory and girls as victims.

anything else? Grin Grin Grin
I love Mn

MyOpinionIsValid · 04/07/2019 21:30

Oh Lord, it's the habitually offended

kateclarke · 04/07/2019 21:30

I agree, it’s grim and depressing.

that25cUKHeatwaveof2019 · 04/07/2019 21:30

You could have the exact same one in pink saying
lock up your boys.

I am not saying I would buy either, but such a non issue.

HopelessLayout · 04/07/2019 21:30

Offensive on many levels. I looked up the etymology of this phrase:

“Lock up your daughters” is an inherently problematic phrase because:

It implies a daughter’s sexuality is her father’s commodity to trade, as indeed it was throughout human history until just a few decades ago (and still is in many cultures). (This is why, quite frankly, men raping their daughters isn’t as rare as you’d like to believe.)

"It implies that male sexuality mustn’t be locked up, because it’s so very, very important, you see, so women/girls and their guardians must hide themselves away if they don’t want to take part in male sexual rampages.

"It suggests that men on the prowl must not be expected to exercise rational judgment, since that might get in the way of their sexual rampaging, therefore any woman not wanting to service them sexually should be kept well out of their way. This frees them up to assume any woman they encounter is theirs for the taking. Anyone who later claims she didn’t see it that way will be interrogated and humiliated on the subject of why she didn’t lock herself away if she didn’t really want to service the men."

Sandybval · 04/07/2019 21:31

It's tacky AF but not sure it's worth getting upset about.

PivotPivotPivottt · 04/07/2019 21:32

Its better than this I suppose

AIBU to think this Poundland baby vest...
SheSaidNoFuckThat · 04/07/2019 21:33

Oh dear, really? Just means he's going to be a "heartbreaker" not a serial rapist ffs. Seriously people get offended over everything these days

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 04/07/2019 21:34

Was there a pink version too? I wonder what that would have said?

IsoscelesSandwich · 04/07/2019 21:34

The worst thing about this, is not the pointless message on the front, but the fact that we can buy something like this so cheaply. Someone somewhere else is paying the true cost for it. And it’ll be crap quality, no doubt be in landfill before too long.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 04/07/2019 21:36

I remember seeing a little girl - probably about 9 or 10 - walking along with her family wearing a T-shirt that said ‘future porn star’ on it.

They were foreign tourists so I can only hope that their grasp of English was shaky and they thought it meant something else.

22Giraffes · 04/07/2019 21:38

People are reading way too much into this, no it's not a particularly stylish item of clothing but it's really not condoning or promoting sexual violence Hmm

Thisismadness · 04/07/2019 21:39

It’s gross, horrible. Anyone saying they don’t see that is lying.

0lapislazuli · 04/07/2019 21:39

YANBU. It’s very bad taste. I can’t believe some people don’t see the issue here. And even worse, some will actually buy this kind of crap and put their babies in it. Boys aren’t born to chase women once they’re grown up, and that is what the message is conveying.

IncrediblySadToo · 04/07/2019 21:40

Sgree with others who have said it just means ‘he’s going to. Real hearts’ it’s NOT that he’s going to be a sexual predator FFS

LIGHTEN THE FUCK UP

Twolittlespeckledfrogs · 04/07/2019 21:41

YABU because that’s exactly why it’s ended up in the pound shop. It’s so hideous that no one would be willing to pay any more for it. It’s not likely that Poundland spent money on having it designed specially.

It's revolting and gross. OP I agree with you 100%

Queenoftheashes · 04/07/2019 21:44

It’s grim

babysharkah · 04/07/2019 21:45

Well it's clearly shit, and I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. Some people might. You can't change the world with a baby gro.
