I live in a gf mainsonette, a few months ago a man moved in above me. He smokes cigarettes out the window and has been throwing the ends into my garden, I have a porch above my front door and when opening my upstairs window I noticed the roof of the porch is covered in them, today I have seen loads outside my front door.

My Aibu is can I just go directly to the council and complain? I’m not good with confrontation so wouldn’t want to approach him directly.

Surely, you don't have to be confrontational, just ask if he would put his cigarette ends somewhere else, as it's a bit of a nuisance, to constantly have to pick them up.

Why cause a fuss by going to the council?
Why would actually talking to him be 'confrontation' ?

Cant you just mention in passing? Point them out?

Thought I would get these answers. I will just leave it then I’m abit of a wuss, I and never see him in passing anyway so would mean knocking.

Buy him an ashtray and leave it by his door.

The council will probably tell you to speak to him first tbh. I understand that you don't like confrontation, but surely just asking him to use an ashtray is not confrontational?;
