To think Miley Cyrus/Hemsworth's song is the ultimate feminist anthem

Mother's Daughter

(not linking but it's on YouTube if you haven't seen it)

Stunned that lots of comments on SM are about how nasty she is, it's satanic etc.
I don't think a lot of people "get it" or it has been the song and clip has proved it's point about "nasty" women, freedom and feminism.

I actually quite like Miley Cyrus (even though I’m not really her target audience) she strikes me as a strong confident woman who is quite sexual and not afraid to show that side of her. Some people can only accept strong women if they show their strength in male ways. Not sure what’s satanic about the video, probably not something that should be on citv or cbbc, but it’s in keeping with her personality/public persona.

I love her, which surprises me since I mainly listen to heavy metal!

Miley is brilliant and the song is brilliant as well. Not sure abiut the ultimate feminist anthem but it is about strong women nothing satanic about it.

If that was the ultimate feminist anthem id be worried.

She still comes over as pointless attention seeking teenage rebellion in this. Nothing breaks like a heart was much more grown up

Blitheringheights · 04/07/2019 13:15

Is she called Miley hemsworth now?

breathing · 04/07/2019 13:16

@Blitheringheights The song writing credits are under miley hemsworth

I think the comment was questioning the juxaposition of "ultimate feminist anthem" with a woman who not only marries but takes her husband's name on marriage....

This is a comedy counterpoint to yesterday's Billy Eilish thread :D

I really like both the song and the video.

I think people misunderstand the lyrics. The "I'm nasty I'm evil" to me reads like sarcasm as that's what strong women who stand up for themselves and don't take shit usually get called. That or "psychos".

She's basically saying fuck you to the way things are.

My own mother is a bint so I find it hard to relate to that song based on the name alone.
