To Hate Ikea

I was in big city today so decided to pop into IKEA on my way home to get some lightshades to brighten up my hall.

After trecking about 5 miles through various departments, including what they called a short cut, I get to the cafe.

I get the obligatory meatballs and chips and sit down. Then to the toilets which are always backed up with toilet paper because their water saving flush has no power.

Then downstairs to the marketplace.

I find the lampshades I want, then see they have a lovely patterned bulb inside them and a blank space on the shelf where they should be.

I eventually find the bulbs after playing trolley chicken with a couple also trying to find bulbs. I remembered the adaptor so they actually fit into my light fitting.

Onto the marketplace, I found the plates and bowls I had also wanted. I was told by a dietician to downsize my plates and bowls so my plate looks full with less. These ones are perfect, I love the feel of them and the chingy noise when you hit them and 50p each!

I get closer to having a nervous breakdown the further into the market I go. I loudly ugh and eye roll at a young couple having a PDA in the middle of the walkway, and am tempted to get exact revenge on all the kids with those damn mini trolleys.

Once I get to the checkout and load up I get a firm telling off from the checkout assistant for stepping over the yellow line before my time. The couple in front look like they are furnishing their entire house so my stuff gets mixed up with theirs as she doesn't wait for them to finish.

Then onto the food bit, and I grab some salmon, that lovely dill sauce and some daim sweets. I manage to resist the cheap hot dog but decide I need a coffee to fortify me on the way home. I press the button for a latte and it spits out more than a full cup of black coffee which spills over the top of the cup.

I get home and go to put the lampshades up and they don't fucking fit. I should have bought some kind of adaptors. The light bulbs are utterly gorgeous but outside the shop are too dim to properly light up my tiny hallway.

Total cost including 2 naff bulbs at £7 each, the food, the impulse bought candles and random crap was close to £60. I think the lampshades were around £15 each.

I can't go through the trauma of trying to return the stuff I won't use. How many people have cupboards full of random Ikea crap bought on impulse?

YANBU

I’m not much of an Ikea fan but can tolerate an Ikea visit on a weekday morning as mine is near enough deserted then. Dislike their furniture but do like other things like certain light fittings and rugs. I march in with a list and very rarely veer from it.

If Dante were writing Inferno in 2019 Ikea on a Saturday afternoon would surely feature as one of his circles of hell.

I used to love IKEA. I do love the kitchen stuff.
But I became v.e.r.y. annoyed after I bought 30 storage bins, and was all set to get to using them straight away....
then the f*ing large stickers wouldn't come off! I had bought some other tubs earlier, and the stickers peeled off easily and cleanly. These fuckers, they shredded off, piece by tiny little little piece, leaving stubborn sticky glue underneath. Tried soaking them off - didn't work. Tried getting the glue off with nail polish remover - didn't work. I had to use turpentine to get the glue off, and it was a gooey mess. Needed to bring them all out on the veranda, so I wouldn't stink up the house. It was raining, too, but I needed to get it done.
It took me over three hours to get the stickers off 30 bins and also the 30 lids!
I wanted to strangle whoever approved those stickers!

Haven't been back for a few years, but I still have a credit with them, so I'll go back someday.

DH and I lurve the hotdogs.
