to disagree with friend about buying tablets online?

IrishGal21 · 03/07/2019 15:04

A friend is fed up with the GP and has ordered some tablets online a few times and they check out as safe. The website is verified. I think she should go to another GP but she feels happy doing this. Any advice? HAs anyone ordered from such a site before?

I do and it’s fine

MyOpinionIsValid · 03/07/2019 15:13

Depends what sort of tablets.

ShakeYourTailFeathers · 03/07/2019 15:16

Website is verified by whom?

No way would i buy pills online. They could send you any old shite.

WrongKindOfFace · 03/07/2019 15:16

Depends. Something like Valium then no. Period delay tablets for a holiday as a one off, probably ok.

WrongKindOfFace · 03/07/2019 15:17

And depends from where. A proper pharmacy is ok. Big Dave’s Drug Emporium not so much.

Sirzy · 03/07/2019 15:17

Why is the GP not prescribing?

Order online (rather than doing pescrption online via the likes of Lloyd’s) is always going to be a risky process

Charley34 · 03/07/2019 15:18

I do, it's a well known online pharmacy great price all dispensed correctly and signed Etc real packaging too not fake .

Passthecherrycoke · 03/07/2019 15:20

If she’s already been using them without issue, what is it you disagree/ are concerned about? There is no reason why “proper” medication can’t be sold online through reputable sites. I can see why you’d be worried about her trying it for the first time but it sounds like she’s already done it?

CalmFizz · 03/07/2019 15:22

Do you think she’s trying to illegally obtain prescription medications she shouldn’t be taking?

Or is the nhs on its knees and she can’t get a gp appointment/saving them the cost of writing her a script.

YouCantTourniquetTheTaint · 03/07/2019 15:23

I do it, the site I use is legitimate. And it saves me from having to go to the drs.

Shebertherbert · 03/07/2019 15:27

I have used chemist direct I think it was. It was to buy a back up supply of my persciption medication. I have only needed to use it a couple of times. I like the sercurity of knowing when my perscription runs out I still have a back up. I live in a very rural area and can't always get to the pharmacy. Plus there is always a problem with my perscription when I go to the pharmacy. Theres a few forms to fill in. They will email with follow up questions if they have a problem. My order came a day or so later. No problems at all. My local Boots are supposed to collect my perscription. But the last 3 months something as gone wrong somewhere. I have had to emergency perscriptions issued. I might be better just using the online pharmacy myself.

HeadsDownThumbsUpEveryone · 03/07/2019 15:27

I don't see a problem. If this is medication she has presumably taken before why would you worry? I assume her frustration is at getting a GP appointment to discuss and complete a repeat prescription its not always as easy as saying go to another GP.

Passthecherrycoke · 03/07/2019 15:28

Also, to be fair, the NHS charge is nearly £9 but presumably lots of medication is much cheaper than that?

Zoobunny · 03/07/2019 15:29

YANBU

Shebertherbert · 03/07/2019 15:29

I think it was actually nationwide pharmacies.

DustyMaiden · 03/07/2019 15:31

I do, in theory it’s a bad idea but can’t keep grovelling for them at Drs.

HeadsDownThumbsUpEveryone · 03/07/2019 15:32

YANBU

Not meaning to sound rude but would you care to elaborate as to why. Just posting YANBU isn't really helpful.

IrishGal21 · 03/07/2019 15:48

It was verified as a trusted Website by gov uk So I guess it is legit
She has not taken these ones before but the GP was not prescribing them. She has taken something similar but these are not so strong. It is for sleep. I guess it is up to her. If other Mners have ordered simialr and not had a problem then I guess it is her choice to use an online pharmacy that is legit, the packaging is legit too.

I will happily be doing this in 2 months time.

I have peri menopause symptoms - according to the NICE guidelines you treat the symptoms. So I go to the docs and she says I insist you have a blood test (pointless according to NICE).

I agree to get her off my back but insist on an HRT script to take immediately after the blood test.

Have blood test, take the script. Call up for results and doc says you're not in menopause. I say ' I know that!, I'm in peri menopause'.

She says 'you don't need hrt'. I say NICE guidelines say treat the symptoms. She says you don't need it, I won't be prescribing more.

I'm furious. One month later all the night sweats, itchiness, heat - all gone.!

I PAY for my prescription anyway !

In 2 months time I'm going to be buying them through ANY MEANS necessary if I'm fucking GP continues being an arsehole.

Madein1995 · 03/07/2019 16:05

It depends what medication it is. Providing the website she gets them from is EU registered (you can check very easily,) then it is perfectly legal and the medication is legit. I used to buy prescription painkiller online.

If it's menopause tablets, period delaying stuff, hayfever, etc then I think that's fine. If it's cocodamol and dihydrocodeine then you're potentially stepping into addiction territory and perhaps right to be concerned

Holycrapster · 03/07/2019 16:24

I've done it. I suffer from recurrent water infections. I wanted the reassurance of having some antibiotics to take on holiday with me without all the hassle of calling the surgery - having to wait for them to call me back in work - and then it being pot luck on which ever doctor called me back.

imnottoofussed · 03/07/2019 16:37

Holycrapster I'd be interested in where you can buy antibiotics, my ddad has had a few issues with UTIs which they only treat when they admit him to hospital via drip. We've been told he should start taking antibiotics straight away as soon as his urine tests show infection at home but the doctor won't prescribe him any as a sort of back up supply.

Holycrapster · 03/07/2019 17:03

I got them from the onlineclinic.co.uk
Just a 3 day course of nitrofantuoin
I haven't taken them but they look legit

SouthWestmom · 03/07/2019 17:33

Do you all mean circumventing the prescription process or just buying portion from somewhere other than Boots pnline?

GrandmaSharksDentures · 03/07/2019 18:18

I would be very interested to know the legal / ethical issues about prescribing to a patient you can't see, hear, examine or at the very least - know their (accurate) history.
Personally, I wouldn't risk my registration doing this, but then I guess others are more relaxed than me
