to disagree with friend about buying tablets online?

IrishGal21 · 03/07/2019 15:04

A friend is fed up with the GP and has ordered some tablets online a few times and they check out as safe. The website is verified. I think she should go to another GP but she feels happy doing this. Any advice? HAs anyone ordered from such a site before?

I buy all medication online because I don't have time to sit in the GP surgery. I'm currently considering researching something for anxiety.

Big Dave's drug emporium Grin

Lets use an obvious example of something that (probably) wouldn't apply to us. Viagra. So yon chappie buys some Viagra online to help with this little problem. And he takes it and has a massive heart attack as a consequence.

Or someone takes AN Other medication - and is pregnant and as a consequence the baby is deformed.

All medication has side effects, the unknown factor is how severely those side effects may impact you.

NoBaggyPants · 03/07/2019 18:29

What medication is it and which site?

Madein1995 · 03/07/2019 19:13

Which medication is it?

There's some sites in the us and Canada where there's no questions and obviously dodgy. On eu registered sites you have to fill in a questionnaire which while it's easy to lie on and there's no official checks, you do have to have a decent backstory

IrishGal21 · 03/07/2019 19:59

Yes it's an Eu registered one and they filled in a questionnaire. If that is 'circumventing the prescription process' then hmm?

MyDcAreMarvel · 03/07/2019 20:04

I use instantecare with no problems .

Silvercatowner · 03/07/2019 20:12

I use an online pharmacy. I don't have time to even make an appointment, let alone attend one. Given the length of appointments, I reckon the online questionnaire you fill in is just as rigorous.

SparklyMagpie · 03/07/2019 20:27

So I'm a little confused on how this all works? Is it a case of your friend asks for whatever medication and lies when answering questions? Or does she actually just get to choose what she wants ?

I don't think I could ever order online, I'd balls up somewhere .

IrishGal21 · 03/07/2019 20:28

They showed me the meds box and it all looks legit dose written on tablet 'silver' container or whatever it is called. I imagine it would cost a lot to fake it...

Ummm, gov.uk do not verify websites. This sounds very dodgy.

hazell42 · 03/07/2019 20:43

I do
Have been ordering for 3+ years. Never had am issue

slipperywhensparticus · 03/07/2019 20:45

I get melatonin online my dr will only prescribe "proper" long term meds I want something that works and I can wake up from the next day no twitching legs no having to take it for weeks on end just for it to work they are legit just overseas legit 🤦‍♀️

SouthWestmom · 03/07/2019 20:46

Do you mean rather than go to a oharmacy or a GP she chooses antibiotics or over the counter stuff and orders it?

titchy · 03/07/2019 20:55

The pharmacy, eg Medexpress.co.uk should be registered here:
https://www.pharmacyregulation.org/registers/pharmacy/name/Medexpress which it is, so legit.

If you think about it your GP asks a series of questions, the online questionnaire asks the same questions.

IrishGal21 · 03/07/2019 21:19

@user148 actually gov.uk do verify sites the Medicines and Heathcare Products Regulatory Agency has verified the online pharmacy and all products and uk sourced which is reassuring in this sitaution or for anyone who wants to buy in this way and has GP issues

OP posts:
IrishGal21 · 03/07/2019 21:23

it seems the UK site you can order mild sleeping pills but I think for things like Temazepam maybe only US or Canadian site sell those? Anyone ever order the 'harder' stuff?? Just curious not wanting to order

I buy B12 injections from Germany (syringes and needles from Amazon). Legal to buy every in europe except the UK, NHS will only give injections every 3 months, I need them monthly. If I leave it 5 weeks I feel crap. Injection at surgery cost to NHS about £30, 60p per vial from Germany.
I also buy T3 when I go on holiday to Turkey. UK GPs rarely prescribe T3 as it's stupidly expensive at £9 per tablet. In Turkey, I get the same tablets at £3.00 for 100.

My GP knows about both of these, she tells me she doesn't/can't recommend it but admits she cannot justify telling me not to.

GrandmaSharksDentures · 03/07/2019 21:51

There is a HUGE issue about falsified (fake) medicines in the UK right now. You cannot tell just by looking at the "quality" of the packaging etc. The NHS has to track EVERY tablet from production to patient to be able to guarantee authenticity.
I would bet quite a lot that some of these medicines "bought" online are fake.

SparklyMagpie · 03/07/2019 22:24

It's all abit frightening for me on what you can supposedly get your hands on online, unless it could be verified 100% etc, how could you take the risk?!

I know that's easy to say, but eeek I couldn't imagine getting my prescriptions from someone I couldn't guarantee

titchy · 03/07/2019 22:41

unless it could be verified 100% etc, how could you take the risk?!

As has been said you make sure the online pharmacy is registered. When you pick up your prescription drugs from your high street chemist have you checked they're registered?

bluebell34567 · 03/07/2019 23:08

recently there was a tv program about fake medications, even cancer med used at nhs.

Riverviews · 03/07/2019 23:22

I use Lloyds pharmacy online. I can't be bothered to go to the GP for stuff I can just pay for.

For example when I was trying different contraceptive pills, I went via Lloyds. It's easier to pay and when I found the right one, then I went to the GP

MissConductUS · 03/07/2019 23:34

I get melatonin online

I'm astonished that you need an rx for melatonin. Your body produces it. It's available over the counter in every chemist and supermarket in the US.

I buy some meds on line as my insurance may only cover a cheaper alternative or have a high copay. The generic drug industry in India supplies the whole developed world, and one of their largest companies (Cipla) is owned by a Japanese pharma company.

Alldaychemist, com is very reliable and has good customer service.

TheVandalsTookTheHandles · 04/07/2019 06:41

I just tried the online clinic.co.uk that someone mentioned above. O have chronic neck pain which I take naproxen for. Costs me the price of a prescription. The online Dr recommended more naproxen. The same amount I normally get for £50 Shock bollocks to that!
