Watching the Azarenka and Tomljanovic match - I am turning over after the first few games because of the noises they make.

I KNOW (well, so they say) that they have to make the noises, but I am already stressed and not enjoying it :(

One of them makes a warbling "uh-h-h-h-h-h-h" noise and the other one makes a shorter gaspy noise. It is the "uh-h-h-h-h-h-h" that is really getting to me though.

Can you not just mute the volume?

Brefugee · 03/07/2019 11:29

is that men or women? I can just about cope with the men - but the shrieking of the women now strikes me more as habit, every bloody shot at just the right range to make ears bleed.

I watch with the sound off these days or not at all

Mute it? I was talking to my PT he other day about this - if they are training a couple of clients at the same time they have to warn a non 'grunter' about a 'grunter'. Some people can't keep it in!

Gaaawd I hate Tennis. I really want to like it. I will watch almost any other sport (bar cricket) and I absolute love football and golf.
Lots of reasons I can't get along with it but chiefly The noises they all make do my absolute head in!!

Saltystraw · 03/07/2019 11:36

Making a noise when playing sports helps you exhale properly.. holding your breath is just going to get you tired sooner and a stitch.

m00rfarm · 03/07/2019 11:56

@Saltystraw - yes I understand the reasons and i have been known to grunt a little myself when I play tennis. But seriously - check out BBC1 now and listen to the noises these two make!

And muting the sound loses the atmosphere
