Today I stopped at a petrol station and wanted to put £30 of fuel in the car but it blipped over to £30.10. When I went to pay I also bought two lottery tickets for £5 so paid £35.10. As I was putting the tickets in my purse I found two old lottery tickets so got them checked. First one won £30 and the second £5.10!

So, can I ask for your stories of coincidences?

Oh and she was born one day before me, same year!

floribunda18 · 04/07/2019 16:04

I was always ringing my mum when she was holding the phone in her hand ready to call me. Sometimes we both called simultaneously and the calls didn't get through, or one of us timed it so that the phone barely rang and mum or me were already on the other end. I don't have to call her as much now as she lives with us, but it still happens from time to time.

My staff number at one job was something random, like 7392. When I joined the civil service, my staff number started with 739 as well. Several years later, when sorting out the outside lock box on my in laws house (who I hadn't met when I had the first staff number), I found out the number is......7392.

In the early 70's we emigrated, and the husband of the lady in the cabin 2 doors down did National Service with my dad.

In Australia I went to the same inter school sports, shopping centers, swimming pools as my friend but I didn't meet her until we'd both returned to the uk and met by chance in a pub. I was as school with friends of her family. We never knowingly met in Australia.

My 2 sons were born at nine minutes to seven and nine minutes past seven on the same day if the month (different years)

My 2 daughters were born at seven minutes to nine and seven minutes past nine on the same date and same month (different years)

I'm one of 5 siblings and we all have the exact same birthday. It's always been an expensive day for our mum! (Also wonder what she was up to 9 months before every year Confused )

BasilFaulty · 04/07/2019 17:23

Some of these are so weird!

Not me but my friend has just moved in with her boyfriend. She was going through some old photos and came across holiday pictures from about 15 years ago where her group of friends are all drinking with him and his group of friends! They had previously met and had a drunken holiday night out never to speak to each other again until they met through online dating! She posted the photos to fb! It’s amazing!

One that happened to me was one New Year’s Eve I went to a massive club in London, had never been out in London before and was not at all street wise but my group of friends all promised to look after me! There was a big falling out and I left the club and got myself back to Liverpool Street station but that was as far as I could get! I sat on some steps and started to cry when I heard someone saying my name! It was one of my best friends from work who happened to also be in London for nye, totally different club but he’d got fed up and was going home! We got a taxi together and we only lived 2 streets apart! The chances of him walking by the station the same time I was sat there!

I went on a holiday with a good friend that was originally booked with my boyfriend but we broke up before the hol so my friend took his place. We were in a fairly quiet 'couples' type town so not really a girls holiday destination as such, plus it was end of the summer season so even more quiet.

First night there we made friends with a group of blokes and got to know them. I got chatting with one and it turned out he went to the same high school as me, was in my older brothers year and had LOADS of the same circle of friends and he played weekend football at the same club as my other brother and also shared loads of his circle of friends yet we had never met! He also lived round the corner from said school which was about ten minutes away from where I lived! We ended up in a relationship for almost a year after that holiday Smile

Just this morning....
My best friend split up with her long term partner 6 months ago and about 3 months ago dipped her toe in the water on an online ‘dating’ site. She got talking to someone who lives about 200 miles away. When talking to me about her new friend she said that they were from a big city near to the small town that I was actual born in. Where we live now and where I was born are both small, rural places. This morning my friend was video calling her new friend as I was at her house and I remarked that her accent wasn’t the city accent but more like the accent from my town of birth..... so to cut a long story short .... new friend was in a serious long term relationship with my cousin about 20 years ago - knows all my family, has met me several times and has even joined us on a mass family holiday!

We are all a bit stunned and the coincidence!

Oh my God I've just remembered another one of mine!

Years ago I listened to an interview on R4 with the guy who was on the cover of the Led Zeppelin album 'Houses of the Holy' when he was a child. (He's a TV chef or something now.) I remember during the interview him saying something along the lines of "I can't imagine letting Poppy and Daisy do that."

The next day I had to attend a photoshoot for work, which was at the photographer's house. I heard her say something like "Poppy and Daisy should be back by 5", and thought "what a coincidence, that's the second time I've heard those names in 24hrs". Not that unusual though, they're extremely popular names and themed.

But then her husband came home as we were wrapping up, and it was the same guy from the R4 interview! So it was in fact the same "Poppy and Daisy"! Just so odd to be listening to him on the radio one day and then obliviously being in his house the next.

I was once in a bar on holiday chatting to a group of people who we had met at an event. It somehow came up that one of the guys had three nipples, which he duly showed me, and I was so shocked, I randomly grabbed the nearest person - another man who wasn't with any of the people I was talking to - and told him. He looked really surprised and revealed that he had three nipples too!

I was then recounting this story years later to in a group during a conversation about coincidences and the man sitting nearest to me also had three nipples.

I'm hoping that someone here will read this and tell me that they have three nipples to make future retellings of this story even more convoluted!

My boyfriend grew up in London in ** street, which was named after a tiny village that I lived in for a few years. His surname was the street name of my parents first home. There are loads of odd coincidences that are very strange between the two of us!

Sparkles57 · 05/07/2019 23:26

When I was a preteen I had a fantasy husband with a very unusual surname (that i had mentally made up Grin), ten years later I met a man in a bar and started seeing him for about two months, only to learn that his surname was the exact same surname of my imaginary husband Shock and I then had to listen to him peacock around saying how unusual his surname is!

Reader, I married him.

Only joking, I shagged him and he dumped me Grin

Sparkles57 · 05/07/2019 23:33

I also met another guy in a bar —not on the same night— 250 miles from my home town, to find out he had lived on the road behind mine for 15 years and taken my friends older sister to prom Shock

ginandnappies · 05/07/2019 23:40

I had a lovely pink glass jewellery box. I got it from my auntie when I was younger and absolutely treasured it. One day I accidentally smashed it and was so gutted! The same day we were going down to second hand yard for a wonder and I see the exact same jewellery box. Same colour, same shape.

ginandnappies · 05/07/2019 23:41

Obviously I bought it! Never really got over how strange it was haha.

anomoony · 05/07/2019 23:56

I used to live in Belgium and I had a friend there. My sister travels a lot for business. One time my sister was in Portugal for a work trip and she noticed that a lady was kind of staring at her. She said "Hi?" and the lady asked "are you related to anomoony by any chance?"

The lady was my old friend from Belgium who was vacationing in Portugal. She said the family resemblance was so strong she just had to ask.

anomoony · 05/07/2019 23:57

Not me but my ex did!

Iwasatglastothisyear · 06/07/2019 01:29

Animum2 - really awkward. I pretended that I’d never met him before in my life and fortunately he did the same. I managed to speak to him on his own and tell him that I liked his wife and I wouldn’t mess up our friendship because of him. To this day she has no idea.

I sell books online. I once sold an old library book that had been taken out of circulation about 40 years before, but still had the original library stamps and markings. I sold it on amazon so there were no photos, just a brief description. The buyer messaged me to say that she had bought the book because she’d read it and enjoyed it a long time ago, and it turned out that my copy was the exact same copy she’d borrowed and read back in the sixties! Somehow it had ended up travelling from the north of the country to the south, eventually ending up in a job lot of books at an auction where I bought it, then making its way back up north to one of the original borrowers.

Met and married my DH, a short while later DM started looking into our family tree and out of interest included my DH's family. She found out that 150+ years ago our family and DH's family were neighbours in a completely different part of the UK to where we (and our families) both currently live!

ImpracticalCape · 06/07/2019 08:03

My bank account number and passport number are exactly the same except my passport number has one extra digit.

ImpracticalCape · 06/07/2019 08:22

Ooh. Another!

As a small child, maybe 6 or 7 my best friend waxed lyrical about how much fun she had at Sunday school. I begged my mother to go (much to her horror) and I attended for around 3 Sundays until I realised I wasn't buying the whole God thing.

Fast forward 10 years my high school did a field trip to the church. As we disembarked the belfry there was a plastic box on the window sill filled with kids colouring bits. On the top was a tin of crayons with a faded, yellowed and frayed sticker but clearly bearing my full name. 😳

Ledkr · 06/07/2019 08:35

I was in a fairly remote part of turkey on holiday. The transfer from the airport was around 3 hours so really out of the way.
I was having an early morning swim and saw my best friends stbxh with his new gf and her kids.
The same stbxh who was trying to force my friend to sell their house even though she had five small kids.
He was claiming he had no money but the holiday was a five star all inclusive and very expensive. 🤔🙄
It was very useful for her and her sokicitor to know this and she managed to keep her house.

When I was 9 months old my family moved into a bigger council house. The family moving out was called Mundy which is a fairly rare surname around these parts.
When I was seventeen I left home and rented a cottage from a farmer about thirty miles away. The man that rented it before me was called Mundy which I thought was spooky. He turned up one day to collect his post and some fishing gear from the shed and it turns out that he is the son of the family that moved out of my family home seventeen years before.
