Today I stopped at a petrol station and wanted to put £30 of fuel in the car but it blipped over to £30.10. When I went to pay I also bought two lottery tickets for £5 so paid £35.10. As I was putting the tickets in my purse I found two old lottery tickets so got them checked. First one won £30 and the second £5.10!

So, can I ask for your stories of coincidences?

Pin number on library card was the day and month of my birthday

Lweji · 03/07/2019 18:16

I have never had a parking problem, found a shopping list nor made a chicken last longer than two meals.

And your MN membership has just been revoked. Wink

The other day I wanted to talk to my sister about a sensitive issue that would require a face to face meeting, ideally.
I rarely see her when out and about, let alone when I'm commuting. So, I meant to call her to arrange to see her.
But that very day we got in the same public transport. Shock

I met a lady on here through the antenatal threads. We had our DS on the same day and gave them the same name (not organised). Later we made friends on FB and she recognised my holiday pics, and it turned out we used to holiday together in the same tiny village abroad!

TomHagenMakesMyBosomTremble · 03/07/2019 18:27

My first bf had two sets of half brothers from his parents respective first marriages. Both were called Stephen & David, in the same birth order.

ChihuahuaMummy1 · 03/07/2019 18:29

Sunday morning I woke up to "there she was justa walking down the street singing ooh ah diddy, diddy dumb diddy doo" in my head.
10 mins later I shout dh downstairs to come get his cuppa and hear him singing the same song 😱

On a flight back to Manchester airport from a Greek island the aisle seat was taken by a man my husband sat next to him chatted away. We landed and went our separate ways. A year later was boarding a flight to a different Greek island in front of us in boarding queue was the man from a year before! Wasn't sat next to us this time though.

When my daughter was 12, we went on holiday a few hundred miles away to Cornwall. Without sounding biased, my Dd is very striking/beautiful. Anyway, a random woman swam up to me in the pool and asked if her name was 'Sophie' (not her real name). I was really shocked when she told me she ran a play bus company some years before, and I had taken her on the play bus a few times when she was 3 in our very remote village!!!
What a memory, and very random to meet many miles away on holiday!

Other notable moment. My divorced DM was set up on a blind date a few years after Dp and I started dating. Not only do myself and mothers partners (well, her now husband and my step dad) share the same first name, they were born on the same day exactly 30yrs apart.

My step dads daughter shares the same birthday as me also.

I had a new pin sent by the credit union before and it was my childhood phone number

bruffin · 03/07/2019 19:15

Pin number on library card was the day and month of my birthday

That is how they do pin numbers at our library. Its not a coincidence

ForalltheSaints · 03/07/2019 19:23

I discovered a sad one last year, in that two ancestors, from different sides of the family, were both deported by the Nazis on the same train.

LEELULUMPKIN · 03/07/2019 19:23

One weird one I've never been able to explain and it did freak me out a bit. About 10 years ago shopping in town, I was approached by a lady, total stranger asking me for directions to the crematorium.

As I had finished my shopping and it was on my way home I told her to follow me and I would take her there. We got there and she was very grateful saying she would never have found it on her own, she lived far away she said and it was the funeral of an old and dear friend, we said our goodbyes and that was that.....

Or so I thought.

The very next day my DH and I were in a city some 150 miles away from where we live, huge population. Wandering round some back streets, guess who I saw walking towards me with some shopping, yep the very same woman from the day before!

We were both so shocked! She hadn't told me where she lived and my DH and I had only ever been to this city once before, many years ago.

We actually hugged each other it was so freaky!

I still wonder what the odds are of that happening?

Weatherforducks · 03/07/2019 19:37

@RelaisBlu - what a coincidence! Me and my two brothers all share the same birthday...but in different years! So the three of us are born the same date, same month! So I am one of those families your professor is looking for!

MrsAJCrowley · 03/07/2019 20:27

My DP used to go out with a girl - we’ll call her Jane. They met and lived a long way from where DP is actually from. However, my DP has the same name as Janes brother. Then they found out that DP has the same birthday as Janes brother AND was born in the same hospital. Turns out there mums were next to each other in the ward!

DP didn’t ever introduce Jane to his family for some reason however, after they broke up, Jane met and married DPs brother and they are still married to this day!

TooManyPaws · 03/07/2019 20:32

Back in the 1980s and 1990s, my parents used to go on holiday in Europe by taking the car over on the ferry and just drive around, stopping for the night in random places. One year, they were in a small town on the Rhine and went into a hotel to ask if they had any vacant rooms. Suddenly out of the bar shot a girl in her early twenties who flung her arms around my dad. It was my mum's cousin's daughter from a small family town in England (we are Scots) and neither knew that the other would be in Germany that summer.

TheJellyBabyMadeMeDoIt · 03/07/2019 20:39

My grandad and his brother each had 3 daughters.

Each daughter's first born was a girl, second a boy and those who went on to have another had another girl.

I realise that's down to genetics more than coincidence, but always amuses me.

Vanillaradio · 03/07/2019 20:40

Dh bought me a Christmas teddy bear the first Christmas we were together. Over the years the bear ended up in a box with a couple of other Christmas cuddly toys then up in the roof when we moved to where we now live. A few Christmases after we moved in dh got the box of toys down for our then 3 year old to play with. The bear had a name on its label which I had never noticed before, it was ds's first name!

Also, the day we registered ds's birth was 9 years to the day from our first date!

TheJellyBabyMadeMeDoIt · 03/07/2019 20:41

My latest one was having a binge watch of Lucifer on Netflix.

Went to put petrol in my car (£5 as was skint), picked up some milk and some reduced kale for the Guinea pigs.

Got to the till and the total came to £6.66

😂

I had a bit of a crazy time due to poor mental health a few years ago.

I had a whirlwind summer romance and got engaged, we planned the wedding for 2. 5 years later, the 6th of April 2013.

The whirlwind fizzled out as quickly as it had started and we split after 2 months.

I set about getting better and late on in the February following I started chatting to someone online. Eventually we agreed to meet. He was free that Friday and arrangements were made. It was only when I looked at my train ticket on the day itself that I realised it was the 6th April (2012).

So, we meet and fall in love and I unexpectedly fell pregnant pretty quickly in the July.

At my first scan I was given a due date of.... 6th April 2013!

I don't consider myself woo, but I always think that it's a hell of a coincidence!

As it was DS was born late March though 😂

Justmuddlingalong · 03/07/2019 21:13

DP and I were on a train in a European country. We were crossing the border into another European country for a day trip. Sat down in random seats and got talking to a couple from America. The lady commented on our Scottish accent and asked where we lived. We told her where we lived now in Scotland which is right across the country from where I was born. She mentioned that her gran was born in a hospital in a small Scottish town. It's the same one I was born in. And because I had my passport with me, I could show her.

Lookingatthestars89 · 03/07/2019 21:20

@ChihuahuaMummy1 This happened to me the other day except it was on the radio and its a song that rarely gets played! I turned the keys and it was the first song that came on!!

Lookingatthestars89 · 03/07/2019 21:22

People finishing other people's sentences appropriately gets me - like one person on one side of the room says "You could never climb that wall..." and someone unrelated you walk passed says "It's far too tall"

bruffin · 04/07/2019 02:27

Had one today.

Was walking to station. Bumped into a parent from dcs primary who i chat with. We were wearing identical dress from next.

UnicornPug · 04/07/2019 08:44

My dd found some abandoned passport pictures. They were of 2 boys, joking about. They were funny, so she kept them. (No, idk why)

I had no idea this had happened until a month later, when we were in a pub in London (not our home town) and she pulled them from her bag looking for something else. I asked what they were and she passed them over. I immediately recognised the boys as the sons of an ex colleague! They all live a good 30 mins away from where the picture was found. Anyway, I text my colleague to say I’d got them and I’d pass them back to her. She replied, amazed, and said it would need to be in a few days as she was on a school trip to London. They were just leaving a theatre after watching a show. We stepped out of the pub 5 minutes later and that theatre was just over the road!

Started a new job on the same day as another woman with the same middle and surname as me, her partner had the same surname as mine and our mum's had the same first and middle names!

It sounds made up but it really isn't. Freaked me right out. And they weren't 'common' surnames either!
