To think the Chernobyl T shirts are tasteless?

They keep popping up on my newsfeed.

Such as

3.6 Roentgens Not great not terrible '

Others just the word Chernobyl.

Lords of Chernobyl and other crass memes.

To me it is sick and disgusting it was a tragic event to have happened ;many people lost their lives and have suffered in the aftermath. Awful nuclear sickness deaths too, cancers etc. Pripyat evacuated for 20k years. It's awful. It's not pop culture.

Would people wear a 911 a T-shirt or a Grenfell one?

I can maybe slightly understand the charity T shirts and the 'never again 'but the memes that seem to be more accepting than other destruction caused by a catalogue of errors and blame.

AIBU?

I have just googled bloody nora yanbu I take it is off the back of the programme but I don't think jaunty t shirts are that great. I have had a book your excursion pop up on facebook Confused

User10fuckingmillion · 02/07/2019 17:05

Some people are sick bastards, aren’t they?

iklboo · 02/07/2019 17:07

It's awful. 'Influencers' are travelling over there taking moody Insta shots of themselves barely dressed, draped over consoles etc. It's like they don't think of anyone else or because it was on TV it was all made up.

AllBirthdaysMatter · 02/07/2019 17:10

Would people wear a 911 a T-shirt or a Grenfell one?

of course, they probably already do.
Everybody has different sense of humour, I don't necessarily get it, but after all you can laugh about anything. Just not with anyone.

Ylvamoon · 02/07/2019 17:10

... AIBU. I was a child (living in a different country and a lot closer to Chernobyl). I remember, is not being able to play outside and my parents taking a interest in wind directions.
Some people are sick.

Chickenitalia · 02/07/2019 17:11

Nope, I agree. Tasteless at best, offensive at worst. So much harm done, so many lies, so much suffering. Those poor people don’t deserve to be reduced to a jokey meme.

The series was excellent but this is too far.

Happyhusband · 02/07/2019 17:11

I was in Kiev when it happened. Interesting times.

Okyah · 02/07/2019 17:16

Totally agree. Really nasty, tasteless and disrespectful. I have a dark sense of humour but somethings don’t belong on tee shirts imo.

Mrsjayy · 02/07/2019 17:17

I don't think Sky meant for the programme to be instafodder tbf it just baffles me how people are so unaware . The cheronbyl kids charity are doing their annual holidays maybe people should be spending their money on that and influencing and raising awareness .bloody tools Angry

AllBirthdaysMatter · 02/07/2019 17:23

maybe people should be spending their money on that

I agree, or at least raise awareness about the programs. It cost nothing , or next to nothing, to welcome a kid for a few weeks in the summer holidays.

HappyNOTdriving · 02/07/2019 17:26

Some people are fucking idiots.

So many people just have so little awareness or empathy for anyone outside their own tiny bubble of interest.

sonjadog · 02/07/2019 17:29

I kinda feel the same about the Titanic souvenirs sold at the museum in Belfast.

IrishGal21 · 02/07/2019 17:34

My aunt taught kids from the chernobyl area and they where white as white, very sickly looking. So yes a tshirt celebrating that event is tasteless.
Also I used to have a twin towers short top I used to love...then the attacks happened and I couldn't really wear it anymore

Mrsjayy · 02/07/2019 17:35

I have family in Belfast I have avoided the titanic museum it really isn't my thing It is mawkish imo.
