should MN change the voting system so it's not available for threads about domestic violence?

I think it's inappropriate for the option to be there on DV threads, it could really cause upset for a vulnerable poster. AIBU? (I'm not a vulnerable poster BTW)

YANBU for no.
YABU for yes.

Fucked up the voting comment there!

Clearly I think it's not unreasonable for it to be disabled.

Does the poster get to choose if the voting button comes up or not?

Sometimes I read a thread and the voting button doesn't seem appropriate so I just ignore it.

I just wonder on a practical level how MN would be expected to do what you are expecting.

nsldriver · 30/06/2019 10:57

Yes, the OP can choose.

Also, I would strongly advise those going through serious problem like DV to avoid AIBU. There are loads of sub-forums which are way more supportive. I see AIBU as more threads about social issues, such as mowing the lawn at 7am on Sunday or having a toilet brush.

StealthPolarBear · 30/06/2019 10:57

Yes you have to enable it.
And aldi you have to be posting in aibu so how could mn prevent it unless they manually went through each thread and removed the voting buttons from any about DV?

aPengTing · 30/06/2019 10:58

The poster CHOOSES whether to use the vote option or not. It’s not forced on anyone.

How would MN know which thread is about DV before it’s posted anyway?

TheQueef · 30/06/2019 11:00

You have to select to add a poll so hopefully it won't be on DV threads etc.
I do think AIBU needs a hiatus to try and stop it being the thread for traffic.

U2HasTheEdge · 30/06/2019 11:25

I think the vote button should just go.

2% voted that a poster was being unreasonable in a DV thread. No, it's not a lot, but you will always get posters who will click YABU on threads like that, and it's a bit worrying.

It's just a stupid gimmick that is not useful in any way.
