Bloody Mumsnet dd, dc, dm, dh, dp, exh, blah blah blah.

Why do we do it?

OP posts:
SmallPinkBear · 29/06/2019 20:06

Because it is easier to type!

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 29/06/2019 20:06

So do it. HTH.

AppleTartlet · 29/06/2019 20:06

I agree. I don't do it

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 29/06/2019 20:07

It’s quicker to type. That’s why we do it. You don’t have to. Call them whatever you like.

DurhamDurham · 29/06/2019 20:08

I've never used the abbreviations, they confuse me (it doesn't take much Grin)

hinely · 29/06/2019 20:09

Quicker to type but things like DS are ambiguous (son, sister) and I bet a fair few readers don't know many of the common acronyms. I'm with you - use husband and so on..

Littlemisslists · 29/06/2019 20:10

It’s not the law, you don’t have to do it.
Once you get in the swing of it ,itdoes make it easier if you are quite active

RedForShort · 29/06/2019 20:10

You don't have too; your membership will not be revoked of you write husband (have tested it out, so I'm living proof).

Though if you enter into this murky world and find yourself writing something like 'dNiece' or 'dDog', then you are doomed. Unquestionable DOOMED!

shesgrownhorns · 29/06/2019 20:11

And also - what's with the 'dear'?

OP posts:
Dexterslockedintheshedagain · 29/06/2019 20:11

What's HTH mean?

Baritriwsahys · 29/06/2019 20:12

It's ok OP - you can.

shesgrownhorns · 29/06/2019 20:12

Ah I know that one - Hope that helps.

HTH.

OP posts:
Chune · 29/06/2019 20:12

It’s not compulsory Grin

SmellbowSmellbow123 · 29/06/2019 20:13

I don’t either. Seems a bit twee to me.

bookmum08 · 29/06/2019 20:13

I find it all hilarious.

NewarkShark · 29/06/2019 20:14

DH etc doesn’t bother me but I don’t get why people put D and then write the complete word afterwards eg DDog

Nanny0gg · 29/06/2019 20:14

Didn't think it was compulsory.

Do what you like. If you want to type more then feel free - no one's stopping you.

shesgrownhorns · 29/06/2019 20:14

But I have to! It's the rules!

OP posts:
boringlyboring · 29/06/2019 20:14

I don’t get this at all. It defeats the purpose of an abbreviation. It’s easier to just type dog.

shesgrownhorns · 29/06/2019 20:16

I'll feel all left out if i don't.

I don't know what to do 😭

OP posts:
codemonkey · 29/06/2019 20:16

I like it when people are cross with their fella and but the darling in quotes - 'D'H. You can't beat mumsnet for a bit of passive aggression Grin

summerofresistance · 29/06/2019 20:17

They weren't invented by MN. They save time. If you don't want to use them, don't. Simple.

Oysterbabe · 29/06/2019 20:17

Do what you want 🤷‍♀️

summerofresistance · 29/06/2019 20:18

I don't know what to do

Ah, join in and use them. You'll be indoctrinated get used to it soon!

NotYourHolidayDick · 29/06/2019 20:19
