AIBU to be so angry at the Estate Agents?

We are currently selling our house and decided to go with a smaller Estate Agents who charge 1% extra than others but really seemed to have their shit together. (Or so we thought).

The last we heard from them, the photographer is coming on Tuesday and the house will be on the market 24 hours later. No viewings have been mentioned or discussed as yet.

Today we had an electrician working in our house so went out an left him to it. He called us to let us know an Estate Agent had used the set of keys we gave them to let themselves in and show viewers around.

We were not told about this nor have we ever given permission for them just to show up unannounced and let themselves in. I feel like my privacy has been really violated. As I did not know they were coming I had left things out, had washing drying on an airer in the kitchen, the house was definitely not in a state that I would want potential viewers looking at. Not only that but I feel enraged that this person would have let themselves in my house and I would not have known they had been there if it weren't for the electrician!

I’ve called the office but there was only a young lad who mans the phone taking messages on a Saturday. I feel awful being cross with him on the phone as who I need to speak to is the Manager.

What would you guys do/think in this situation? I feel like asking for my key back!

This happened to me when we sold our house. I asked for my key back and told them id only accept viewings that I could be present for. I complained to the manager but I found the estate agents pretty useless in general tbh.

They're not only crap at customer service, they're idiots too: surely it's as much in their interests as yours to ensure the house is being presented in the best possible way?

Check that you haven't agreed to viewings of this type in the Ts and Cs you've signed up to.

In your shoes, I would ring on Monday and ask for the manager then ask him/her for feedback from the viewing. See what they say and take it from there.

I would take the keys back and sack them. If they is how they are starting out it does not bode at all. Selling houses is so stressful, you need to feel assured that you are in the hands of an agent that is capable and respectful. Communication is vital and it sounds like these guys are seriously lacking in the communication and customer service areas. I wouldn’t waste your time with them.
