Skincare routine

ThunderR0ad78 · 28/06/2019 21:14

So I'm 41 and up until today this has been my routine for cleaning/washing my face.

Shower every morning and wash my face with a face wash. Moisturise with a supermarket moisturiser then apply my makeup, bit of foundation etc.

Unless I have a bath in the evening I never take my make-up off at night, I just give my face a good wash every morning/moisturise every morning.

I explained this to a number of staff working on the beauty counters today in a department store and honestly they were in disbelief, shell shocked that I could go to bed without cleaning my face & removing my make-up!

Am I the only one - is it so bad!???

Safe to say they saw me coming and I've invested heavily in a number of fancy products!!! So I'm a changed women!!

PS - no my pillows are not stained by my foundation / mascara!

Your routine does sound quite basic OP.

My routine is as follows:

Cleanse,
Tone (vit c or glycolic based)
Serum
Moisturiser
SPF

And then in evening I repeat but with retinol based products. I couldn’t go to bed without removing my make up

Chloe9 · 28/06/2019 21:20

I only do it once or twice a week
I'm exhausted most nights and prioritise brushing my teeth, then flossing, then makeup removal, then proper skin care (face scrub and mousturise)

Most days I wash my face in the shower, and I usually take my mascara off in the morning with a baby wipe on the school run

Mine is like yours OP, and I'm not changing it anytime soon.

Alsohuman · 28/06/2019 21:23

No way could I go to bed in my makeup. It’s like not cleaning your teeth. I double cleanse, whack some rosehip or Orchid oil on, followed by night cream.

skybluee · 28/06/2019 21:26

I can't sleep without make-up off!
At night if I'm tired, I put luke warm water on my face, use my foaming cleanser, rub it in gently, take it off, rinse, then pat dry, then put moisturiser on... it takes a minute or maybe two minutes... just keep it down to the basics.

Hope you like your new routine!

Nottheduchess · 28/06/2019 21:29

Yep, Facewash, face wipe (to get rid of the undereye previous days mascara) moisturiser then makeup.

fantasmasgoria1 · 28/06/2019 21:31

I use face wipes to take off majority of makeup, i wash face with fave wash, i then tone my face using antibacterial toner and finally moisturise with a retinol cream. In the morning i use factor 50 sunblock under my makeup.

netflixlove · 28/06/2019 21:32

Definitely take your makeup off before bed AT LEAST!

I'm very basic with my routine too (I'm 20 and have quite good skin so like to keep it unproblematic!) but I make sure I use good products.

Morning:
Wash face (usually in shower!) with neutrogena face wash for shiny/oily skin.
Moisturise with Manuka Doctor bee venom moisturiser. (Really good stuff!)

I don't wear face makeup aside from concealer under my eyes & mascara.

Evening:
Remove eye makeup with Nivea micellar water.
Wash face (in shower again!) with same neutrogena face wash.
Moisturise face with same moisturiser.

I always change my pillow case nightly too as it helps not spread dead skin/bacteria! Also I never touch my face unless I've washed my hands. Always use a clean face towel.

If it's hot outside I mix my moisturiser with the Hawaiian Tropic spf 30 facial sun cream.

ParrotsForLife · 28/06/2019 21:32

I don’t wear make up very often but will usually slap some water across my face most mornings and nights. Don’t usually use any product to clean my face, I have a bottle of toner that I occasionally apply on a whim. I do pop some moisturiser on though.

Ronia · 28/06/2019 21:38

I couldn't go.to.bed with makeup on. I actually.love the evening ritual of cleansing the day away.

That said you're in good company. Claudia Winkleman is the same and hilarious talking about it .

Can't remember if she talks about it in vid part one or two but whole interview is hilarious

BummyKnocker · 28/06/2019 21:39

I hardly wear it now but would never go to bed with my make-up on (unless very drunk back in the day) it just felt horrible and encouraged more spots.

I used to have very bad skin in teens/20s so was very meticulous looking after my skin and I have to say it has paid off as now it is pretty good and I'm 50. I still have a thorough skincare routine.

I too change my pillowslips so I have a fresh surface every night!

netflixlove · 28/06/2019 21:41

@BummyKnocker it's lovely isn't it! I couldn't sleep on the same pillow case every nightGrin

My boyfriend thinks I'm crazy as we have about 50 million pillow cases 😂

OhGrimbles · 28/06/2019 21:43

I am not surprised that you do that because people do all sorts but I am surprised that you were surprised that they were surprised. Doing it is one thing but openly and casually admitting it now that’s a whole other kettle of fish.

OhGrimbles · 28/06/2019 21:48

When I was younger I mentioned to a beauty counter saleswoman that I was a bit low maintenance and often washed my face in the morning with whatever shower gel I was using. She was horrified which I thought was a bit of an overreaction. I mean it’s not like I wasn’t washing it but I suppose she thought what kind of person buys expensive moisturisers and kit only to then wash their face with shower gel. So I suppose she had a point. Like you though I was a bit taken aback by how taken aback she was so I guess I should say that on reflection I can relate completely!

ThunderR0ad78 · 28/06/2019 21:49

Wow I'm definitely in the minority!

Blimey, a new pillow case every night Grin - I feel like a right lazy mare!

I've invested in Dermalogica products - not cheap, so hope they make a difference!

I have rosacea so really should be doing more than I am!

i'm weird about taking my makeup off. no matter how drunk or tired i've been, i always manage to take it off, even if it's just a face wipe. i feel horrible sleeping in it.

i use a cream cleanser on a night, very easy, one step all over my face and it removes everything. then an acid/serum and an oil. on a morning i cleanse again and remove with a flannel (feels nice and spa-y). face masks and treatments whenever i can fit them in- usually a couple of times a week.

Readyforapummelling · 28/06/2019 22:45

I use Liz Earle and I couldn't recommend it enough. The hot cloth cleanse and the skin repair tonic followed by the moisturiser has been a miracle for giving me healthy glowing skin.

Hecateh · 28/06/2019 22:47

I'm 64 and don't remember ever taking my makeup off before bed even as a teenager. I'm sure I've done it a couple of times.

Never had more than one spot on my face at a time.

Only now in my 60s do I have a regular twice a week routine (no make up). I've got great skin and few lines (for my age).

Lucky genetics rather than anything else though - I don't recommend it

soberken · 28/06/2019 22:52

Dermalogica is amazing! I use all their products and have mild rosacea. Enjoy it

Tavannach · 28/06/2019 22:59

*I am surprised that you were surprised that they were surprised."

Me too. I can just imagine the horrified expressions.Grin
I've fallen asleep without doing the full routine but I don't wear much make-up, just tinted sunscreen most days.

24hourhomeedderandcarer · 28/06/2019 23:41

been doing this for years now

morning
i use lush soap lathered up with a shaving brush and just rinse off with water, then lush moisturizer

night
i do diy facials using lush products
wash with lush soap(different one from the morning) using shaving brush again, then a scrub then a mask till it dries, wash off and then massage with dry facial brush, half hour later i use derma roller(this does take some getting used to and killed at the beginning)

few hours later after my face has calmed down from derma roller i use bio oil for bed

i dont wear make up and live on a mountain so no smog or fumes to deal with and plenty of clean fresh air

not pulling my own bell but loads say i dont look 38 they think im early 30s

OhGrimbles · 29/06/2019 00:04

I am a reformed character these days. I’ve ditched the cheap face wipes and switch between Dr. Jackson’s and Eve Lom with flannel. The Eve Lom makes my skin look amazing (for me) but it’s quite rich so it doesn’t suit me to use it every day as I’m a bit spot-prone.

Good luck with your new products, Op and keep us posted on how your skin takes to the change. You’ll probably be glowing in a week or two.

Seeingadistance · 29/06/2019 00:25

I run wet hands over my face when I'm having morning bath or shower.

Towel dry.

Rub a splodge of E45 cream onto face.

That's it.
