Chicken pox

Dd came down with chicken pox on Saturday. We're over the worst of it now, itchiness seems to have gone, along with temp and lack of appetite. The spots have all crusted over so I think this means she's no longer contagious? Happy to be told I'm wrong about that.

Anyway my Aibu is am I okay to take her to the supermarket? Like I said, I no longer think she's contagious and now her appetite has returned, she's back to eating me out of house and home and we are desperate for some shopping. I'm dreading the tantrum when she realises that we are out of bananas and tbh, I could really do with getting out the house.

So will I be okay to take her the supermarket or keep her isolated for another few days?

I would take her if she is crusted over.

badg3r · 28/06/2019 12:56

Yes if all the spots have scabbed over and it has been six days, it is fine. I did the same with mine once they had scabbed over.

Only a week? I remember chickenpox lasting wayyy longer than that. Doesn't it come in droves? The spots I mean. Could be wrong but either way...I wouldn't be taking her out for at least another week and could still be contagious. Especially as kids touch everything.

It took 8 days for my DD to have all her spots crusted over and we went out immediately. She'll be fine as long as they're all crusted over.

TigerBubbles · 28/06/2019 13:10

Tbh I thought they lasted longer but she seems to be fine. First few days and nights were horrendous but she's pretty much back to normal now. Someone told me that sunshine helps dry the spots out so she did spend a lot of yesterday (first nice day) playing in the garden but even before that they were pretty much scabbed over.

I'll take her the supermarket but keep her in her pram, so she can't touch anything just in case. If we go soon hopefully it will be quite enough that we can just dash in and out

Dd2&3 were crusted over in 5 days but dd1 was older and it was more like 10 days. If they're crusted over then you're completely fine to go out.

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 28/06/2019 14:12

As long as all the spots are crusted then she’s fine.

Reallybadidea · 28/06/2019 14:22

NHS advice is that it's no longer infectious once spots crusted over, which they state normally takes about 5 days. You'll be fine to go to the supermarket
