Homelessness

We're raising money at work for charity and deciding on a charity. 99% of us have agreed a homeless charity but a response from one woman:
"I do feel sorry for the homeless but I think they get enough support as it is. I think the reason why the majority of them are homeless is because they get too much".

AIBU in feeling a bit shocked at this or am I missing something? This is a very local charity and not a nationwide one.

Get too much what?

Passthecherrycoke · 28/06/2019 10:38

Your just missing that some people don’t give a fuck about anyone but themselves

I volunteer with 2 different local charities who help the homeless and have come across this attitude many a time sadly.

Some people don't understand and some just don't give a flip about anyone else

I've just responded to her:
"Too much what? Food? Shelter? Security? Opportunities? Yeah, sounds great, sign me up for homelessness 🙄" a bit sarky / PA but I don't care.

That reminds me of a time I was organising Christmas shoeboxes to send to "Poor children".
I asked people to donate old toys etc.
One kid came with his donation and then spotted a car he really wanted. He asked if hew could have it and his mother said "No it's for the poor children".
He answered. "Poor children get everything"
He was about 6. I don't know what your friends excuse is
