Am with Santander. They want all customers to download a banking app and use that in future. Their app is not compatible with a desktop pc.

I don’t want to access my bank accounts by phone.my phone is ancient and I have a pc.

Can anyone recommend a bank? I need to access my accounts via computer, not app.

Honestly.

There is no way Santander are doing away with their website based online banking!!!

Whywonttheyletmeusemyusername · 25/06/2019 20:57

I'm with Santander - haven't had any notification of this? When is it coming in ? Nationwide is very good for online

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 25/06/2019 20:58

I use online banking as well as the app with Santander. There are some things I have to log in for, e.g. secure messaging

Flicketyflack · 25/06/2019 20:59

First Direct very good ime Wink

Bottledate · 25/06/2019 20:59

Their 'app' might not be compatible with a PC, but they still have a website which is! I use both.

SpanglyPop · 25/06/2019 21:04

NATIONWIDE

old skool meets new skool. You'll get everything you could want from them AND they're still a proper building society. Result.

GiantKitten · 25/06/2019 21:08

I'm with Santander too - use app on phone, & website on PC.

The app is good, but it's limited. There's no way they'll be doing away with website access!

Catanddogmake6 · 25/06/2019 21:12

First Direct are now going to make everyone use those stupid auto number generating machines which I hate with a passion. I always manage to lose them or get myself locked out. Meanwhile the fraudsters seem to have no such problems. They might work for you if you don’t mind them but I think I might have to find another bank.

Waveysnail · 25/06/2019 21:15

They are not doing away with online banking they want you to use app if accessing from tablet or phone

Sparklesocks · 25/06/2019 21:16

Are you sure the app is the only way to access it or is that just on smartphones?

BogglesGoggles · 25/06/2019 21:17

Barclays easy to use via web browser

donquixotedelamancha · 25/06/2019 21:17

I've had the same notice- you now have to have the app to use a pc. I think it mentioned texts to phone as an alternative 2 factor authentication.

First Direct very good ime

Same notice from first direct.

Waveysnail · 25/06/2019 21:21

If you can’t download the mobile banking app, for now we’ll still be able to send you a One Time Passcode (OTP) to check it’s you, so make sure the mobile number we have for you is up-to-date. We’ll also still use OTP for some transactions.

Toystorypants · 25/06/2019 21:32

Wow. That's mad. They just surely have, for example, elderly customers who can just about manage online banking but don't have a mobile phone? I can't see the point myself.

tenlittlecygnets · 25/06/2019 21:38

Santander has just tweeted me to say I will need a phone or device that’s compatible with their app.

I said I’d close my account...

But I guess if santander are doing this, other banks will follow?

I got the mail this afternoon. Ffs.

Banks have a huge problem with security. We want them to refund our money if we've been scammed but don't want the fuss and bother of going through a more secure system....

WoollyMollyMonkey · 25/06/2019 21:41

Money saving expert website is good at recommendations. Have a look on there you may find a good cash back offer to switch banks.

tenlittlecygnets · 25/06/2019 21:42

Apparently we can use an OTP for now, but no idea how long this will be valid for. Great.

tenlittlecygnets · 25/06/2019 21:43

Surely banks can make their log in system secure enough for logging in from a desktop.. why is it more secure from a mobile?

Just think of all the older, rich customers they will be alienating with this move!

Doobigetta · 25/06/2019 21:47

I can’t see them being allowed to do that. The FCA regulations have a lot of focus on protecting vulnerable customers and ensuring that they have full access to banking services. Making contact methods and ability to carry out transactions dependent on access to technology is a big black mark, because it disproportionately affects older and poorer people. There’s a whole thing about Treating Customers Fairly, and every FCA-regulated company I’ve worked for has been very careful not to fall foul of it.

RubaiyatOfAnyone · 25/06/2019 21:54

Are you sure it’s legit?
Do not download anything from a link in a random text (tweet?) - phone Santander and check if it really is from them?

RedHelenB · 25/06/2019 22:00

Yes is it genuine?

spugzbunny · 25/06/2019 22:09

I'm sorry but it's just common sense that they won't be doing away with online banking. They may be getting rid of the mobile compatible page and replacing with an app but no way they'll be removing online banking.
