Blatantly posting for traffic sorry.

Looking for ideas as to where to go/what to do near St Malo mid September.

I'm looking at going getting away for a few days mid September and thought about getting the ferry to St Malo. Happy to take my car so can drive a few hours away or up to an hour or so each day for activities.

Will be going on my own and am fairly active though also enjoy wandering around historic towns drinking coffee (or wine) and people watching for some of the time.

Any ideas?????

I love St Malo! We were there for 2 days in April as part of a drive across Normandy and Brittany. Sorry no ideas of things to do but I spent hours wandering the streets, along the beach and eating delicious foods from bakeries!

Went on a school trip and loved it. But I'd also be heading straight to Le Mont St Michel.

I vaguely remember other towns and villages from Normandy, lots of very pretty little places to explore.

St Malo is gorgeous. You could easily spend a couple of days just wandering through the old town, around the walls, on the beaches, watching the busy port and harbour etc.

Thanks for the replies.

I'm just worried I may get a little bored/lonely just wandering round on my own for 3/4 days so was hoping to plan an activity/trip or two to at least give me some structure to my trip.

St Malo is lovely!old walled town with loads of cafes and restaurants. I have only done day trips though so may have exhausted the options after that. Have fun!

Bayeux and the tapestry is not far away.

pudcat · 25/06/2019 20:24

There is also a huge aquarium.

Dinan is less than an hour's drive away and very pretty (good for cafes, arty shops/galleries, taking pretty pictures); some times of year you can also take a boat trip down there from St Malo. Mont St Michel is also a must.

If you want a change from all the standard creperies while you are in Brittany, I can recommend Breizh Cafe's St Malo branch, which is upmarket Breton/Japanese fusion.

buttermilkwaffles · 25/06/2019 20:51

As well as Dinan and Mont St Michel, there is also Fougeres: travelguide.michelin.com/europe/france/brittany/ille-et-vilaine/fougeres

The D-Day beaches?

HPLikecraft · 25/06/2019 20:55

Oh I love spending a day in St Malo when we sail to and from there. It has the best ice cream shop in the world there (in my opinion and very limited experience!).

Can’t remember any of the names of the places I visited in northern Brittany (apart from Mont St Michel - ridiculously busy in summer) but there is a lot of loveliness.

St Malo’s Great! Binic isn’t too far away and it’s beautiful there too!
