Just caught a bit of This Morning. What exactly qualifies Vanessa Feltz to dispense advice on this programme? As far as I'm aware she doesn't have a counselling qualification or any clinical knowledge. So basically it's her opinion in a phone in... Which is fine but I suspect some of the people ringing in have serious problems and would benefit from proper professional help as opposed to a journalist with a load of opinions.

Nothing qualifies Vanessa Feltz to dispense advice on relationships.

Neither do the overwhelming majority of posters, but it doesnt stop advice being sought, or dispensed, does it?

@ArtyFish

Same with Coleen Nolan (in the sun I think.. she is an 'agony aunt' !)

I guess they have their personal life experiences to draw off, and are both 50-something so have lots of years behind them; divorces, children, bereavements, financial issues, mental health issues/depression, low self esteem, etc... And in some ways they may be better than someone who IS 'qualified' as a counsellor who has very little life experience.

I don't think they should be dispensing medical or legal advice though...

I am torn. As I said, I someone who is qualified, is not automatically any better, as they would not necessarily be experienced in the issues they are advising on.

I don't know the bit you are talking about (don't watch daytime tv) however, I have heard in RL shes actually really nice (I know that doesn't change her qualifications but...)

Happinessbegins · 25/06/2019 12:15

I find her advice very straightforward and sensible tbf.

BigRedLondonBus · 25/06/2019 12:15

She was giving
Out some really bad advice when I watched once, even holly made it
Clear she disagreed with her!

Nothing, of course. But I think she’s great - obviously really intelligent and a lot of fun to listen to. I catch her morning show twice a week.
