How are people not more outraged? And no, tourists do not visit the UK specifically because of the royal family.

"This year, 320,000 people were recorded as homeless in Britain"

The rituals that take place in a courtroom are partly maintained to try to retain reverence for the law.

The rituals involved with the monarchy help to maintain reverence for an ordinary family with mediocre accomplishments.

The "set up in Ireland" is an awful waste of money - we don't need a President.
Michael D and the wife are on the pig's back

Without knowing about Ireland specifically, I think there is value in having a head of state who is separate from the head of government. The head of state represents the country, while the head of government does the governing.

I have always thought that the president of the US, not specifically this one, is treated like, well, royalty. I sometimes cringe when I hear the words, The President of the United States of America! and I add an echo, in my head, "merica, erica, ica......".

Not that the HoS has to be a monarch, but just separate from the HoG.

kidsmakesomuchwashing · 29/06/2019 18:51

It's money that comes from the money the crown give to the government.

LaMarschallin · 29/06/2019 20:01

You don't have to curtsy to royalty, a mere head bob is sufficient

Yes. Just as long as you get your head lower than theirs.
Still a bit grovelly.

I'd go for a stately wink and a dignified, "Wotcher!".

It says that the spend on Frogmore cottage is going to reach over three million.

Again: I will say this: people at the top have no compassion for you. They are corrupt.

I rather suspect that Meghan may be one of those people 'who just cant keep staff'. Possibly she is too demanding, perhaps she doesnt realise that that you need to be polite/nice to people (even if you are paying them) to get the best from them. I dont know. But 3 nannies in 6 weeks seems extreme to me - that sounds like 3 trial fortnights gone wrong, and in that case I'd be asking myself where the problem might lie.

Ghanagirl · 29/06/2019 22:11

@ohymygodbethenny
YABU
as you seem to be like a lot of Mumsnet Alumni who hate Meghan Markle but then state “it’s not because she’s mixed race”
Why don’t you complain about Prince William and Kate ( Kate’s never worked a proper job since she graduated)
Get over your bigoted self.
I’m tired of this shit!!

JaimeBronde · 29/06/2019 22:23

Is it actually correct that Meghan has had 3 nannies? No it's just rumour & hearsay as far as we know.
Anyway even if she's tried 3 nannies, you know what we are like with our PFB!
The 3 nanny thing if it is true could be a maternity nurse in the first week, then a temp nanny until they found someone who can commit to full time.
The press should just leave Meghan alone.

Ghanagirl · 29/06/2019 22:28

Why is
Mumsnet obsessed with
Meghan Markles perceived faults whilst worshiping Kate Middleton.
They both married into the royal family but One Duchess sat on her backside waiting to snag a prince due to family money.
Second Duchess graduated from a good university and had a career prior to meeting her prince.
I’m not interested in Royal family but bloody fed up with racism on Mumsnet which is supported by HQ...

Ghanagirl · 29/06/2019 22:35

@findingmyfeet12
YADBU for (possibly being ractist and starting another thread bashing first black woman to marry into royal family.
What’s wrong with you!!

Ghanagirl · 29/06/2019 22:43

@findingmyfeet12
Agree but why is this vitriol mostly aimed at Meghan Markle who actually had a career prior to marrying a minor Royal.
Kate Middleton was groomed by her parents to marry well yet she’s not given the same shit as Meghan Markle

Why be upset about one particular Royal couple?

I have no idea why I pay tax so that some of the richest people in the country can scrounge money to do up their houses, travel first class, have a slap up wedding or whatever. Did anyone not notice the Queen is rolling in money? And her son too?

But we aren't supposed to give money to homeless people because it might encourage them????

How about we discourage this bunch of no-marks my stopping the civil list completely? And then we can re-direct the money to people who really need it. xx

dreamyspires · 30/06/2019 01:06

If you criticise Meghan Markle it means you’re racist. How absolutely pathetic.

lyralalala · 30/06/2019 01:17

The 3 nanny thing if it is true could be a maternity nurse in the first week, then a temp nanny until they found someone who can commit to full time

It’s probably as accurate as the PA’s situation.

The whole “PA quits after 6 months with Meghan after years with the royals” was actually “PA who was leaving, but agreed to stay on for 6 months to help Meghan in her first days has now finished those 6 months” - it was obviously too wordy

findingmyfeet12 · 30/06/2019 02:07

I've not criticised MM specifically. I think the whole institution is outdated and I find it embarrassing that as a nation we continue to support them.

FWIW I happen to think that a lot (not all) of the MM criticism is racism.

I also find it cringeworthy that people even feel the need to comment on looks when discussing any of the royals, but more so when they're praised for having good looks. This often happens with KM. Not always on MN but other forums in general. As though that in itself is a measure of a persons worth.

findingmyfeet12 · 30/06/2019 02:09

I don't think there's anything wrong with being groomed to marry well btw. KM isn't accused of conning anyone. Presumably William knew what she was about and was happy with the relationship.

yolofish · 30/06/2019 06:27

@yolofish
I rather suspect that you are a racist arsehole

ghanagirl clarify please before saying something like that.

findingmyfeet12 · 30/06/2019 07:21

The referring to black women as demanding, aggressive, pushy, etc is a well documented form of racism.

Before anyone denies this - don't bother. If you don't think you're racist, why get her up about it?

I'm not sure why heresay over MM domestic arrangements is examined in such detail when people like the DoE are on record as being thoroughly unpleasant. No heresay needed in his case.

allibaby · 30/06/2019 07:50

The accusations of racism in this thread are absolutely disgusting and I think really undermines genuine racism.

FFS people are entitled to not be happy about the cost of the renovations, they are even entitled to not like Megan Markle without being accused of being a racist. (I have no opinion except she comes across as nice).

I remember Kate getting an absolute slating from the press for the cost of their renovations (I didn't read these forums then but if posters were anything like people in real life she would have had a slating on here too)

I find it so hypocritical of posters to shout racist at anybody who doesn't share the opinion while using that to slyly put down Kate.

Ghanagirl · 30/06/2019 08:00

@allibaby
Only on Mumsnet is being accused of racism much worse than actually being racially abused and bullied.
