How are people not more outraged? And no, tourists do not visit the UK specifically because of the royal family.

"This year, 320,000 people were recorded as homeless in Britain"

Yeah 'cause two adults and one newborn living in a two-bed flat is justunthinkable

Get a grip why would a.very rich couple who probably will need a nanny consider staying in a two bed flat with child?

LaurieMarlow · 26/06/2019 22:03

Yes, let’s package them off to Northern Ireland Grin

I always think what a massive waste it is that the Queen occupies Holyrood for just one week a year. It’s obscene.

BlamesFartsOnTheNeighbour · 26/06/2019 22:18

Um, the nanny could sleep somewhere else?

Petlover9 · 26/06/2019 22:25

Agree with you Rainydays- I am not a royalist anyway, years ago it was the biggest bully who got be be king and then william the conquerer came over and declared himself king, the lot we have now are decended from that time . They are just humans like everyone else and don’t deserve privileges. It is outdated and Megan especially is a spender

Petlover9 · 26/06/2019 22:29

Ginlines.....I agree with you

lyralalala · 26/06/2019 22:43

interesting. What other palaces could they have moved into more or less instantly? Anyone know or have any ideas?

They’d all have required some sort of work, but there’s apartments at Kensington and St James’ that could have been rejigged.

There are properties on Sandringham Estate as well, but that’s too far out to be their main residence if they want to primarily be based in/near London.

lyralalala · 26/06/2019 22:46

Found one! Barnwell Manor in Northhamptonshire, nice and large formerly occupied by the Gloucesters.

Barnwell is privately owned, it’s not a royal residence.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 26/06/2019 23:06

Ahhh yes. Occupied by Windsor House Antiques as of 2017. Oh well.

Looks like Kensington Palace was the best of the choices available to them then but they didn't want it for whatever reason. Curious as to why they didn't go for St James. Perhaps security.

Pixiebutterfly83 · 26/06/2019 23:10

Crownestates brought in £343.5 million into the economy this year 85% of the total profit made. The £2.4 million didn’t come from taxpayers money, it came from the other 15% made by the crown estates which pays for all of the monarchy business. Please stop being dumbasses who believe all the Media says

ToftyAC · 26/06/2019 23:35

The Queen’s estate paid for it. It’s not up to us to say. But then I don’t believe all I read in scumbag gutter press either. They usually have some biased slant on every story.

MissKittyBeaudelais · 26/06/2019 23:55

Utterly disgraceful.

I think Kensington was perhaps an issue partly with timing. The Gloucester’s haven’t moved yet so there would have needed to be another property sorted (especially as the renovations to the new place they are going only started in January so they may not have been moving when the discussions for Harry & Megan’s long term place were had) as they wanted to be moved before the baby arrived. By the time they move out in a month or two and Ben any work starts (there’s bound to be work needed as the G’s have been there for years and the upkeep of the palace apartment is pretty crap) they wouldn’t be in for a few months after that.

The main large areas in Kensington that are currently used as offices and the likes are 9 & 10 which are Diana’s old apartments. So I can understand avoiding that.

St James’ is very secure, but it’s said to be cold and not very nice. William and Kate turned down a place there as well. It would also put them right on the doorstep of Clarence House.

lyralalala · 27/06/2019 00:01

Also the Gloucester’s left Barnwell because of the costs of the upkeep. The place cost a fortune to run for whatever reason.

Nanamilly · 27/06/2019 03:45

Isn’t it? oh well, bound to be an equally big pile - just can’t stand the whole nest of them

You're being very silly.

Ghanagirl · 27/06/2019 03:57

onalongsabbatical

So campaign against the monarchy, don't target a couple one of which is almost the newest member AND a black woman. When did you last complain about how much the Queen spends?

VladmirsPoutine

Kate seems to get off scot free.

Kate isn't half black, unfortunately.
And this...

findingmyfeet12 · 27/06/2019 06:21

I wish people would stop saying they cost pennies per year. That's not the point. It's the principle that's rotten. The idea that a family is inherently better than others though they've achieved nothing of any significance as individuals is ridiculous. People who support them are probably the same ones who ridicule religion - this isn't a whole lot different.

However, whilst H & M are far down the pecking order, until the Cambridge children grown up H & M will remain high profile. They do have quite a lot of value to the "brand" at the moment.

Teacher22 · 27/06/2019 06:49

Taxes are not hypothecated and were the cash not spent on Frogmore House then it would not have been spent on the ‘homeless’ or any individual’s pet project or desire,

(And the issue issue of where, when, why and whether anyone is actually permanently ‘homeless’ is another story and is based on informed evidence not heart on sleeve emotionalism.)

Whisky2014 · 27/06/2019 07:06

I don't think it's that bad. In 2016 UK spending was £755 Billion. It's a drop in the ocean and it's not covering the full renovations, Meghan and Harry are paying the rest im sure which will run into many more millions I have no doubt.

CoffeeToffeeFudge · 27/06/2019 07:53

Some people, like Ghanagirl have very short memories.

Kate has been hugely criticised. “Waitey Katie”? Not getting a job after university. Having middle-class parents. Being “lazy” (something still levelled at her these days). And yes...the £4m spent on KP, (two kitchens!) and the renovations at Anmer (a new kitchen when the previous one was only a few years old!). There was even tutting over her £50k clothes expenditure.

But Meghan spends immense amounts of money on clothes (to a quite repulsive degree) and is the subject of multiple reports of high-handedness and rudeness to staff, and yet any criticism at all is “racist”.

There have been similar reports about Princess Margaret, the Queen Mother & Prince Andrew - all apparently entitled and snotty to the little people - but any suggestion that Meghan may be capable of the same kind of behaviour is only because she’s a black woman.

Absurd and insulting. Misusing the term “racism” like this is shameful.

PineappleFwitters · 27/06/2019 07:54

Apparently the Gloucesters' apartment at Kensington Palace needs substantial renovating too, so I imagine that would've cost just as much.

mummmy2017 · 27/06/2019 08:28

Are we all just not a product of our birth .
If your family prospered and you have a nice house and a job with perks I doubt anyone would give it up to live in a slum.
Have any of your turned down an inheritance from your family.
Tradition and ceremony are important ...

Smokeonthewater · 27/06/2019 08:36

Coffee I totally agree with you.

Smokeonthewater · 27/06/2019 08:39

Holyrood is a huge tourist attraction though. It makes a lot of money from tourist revenue - at the moment it has a display of Meghan's dress and Harry's uniform.

BlamesFartsOnTheNeighbour · 27/06/2019 09:02

Eh? How do you work that out?
