AIBU to go back to the gp even though I have a scan booked for end of July

So this is a little complicated

I have had three issues lately 1. Very heavy periods 2. Back pain and 3. Apparently some liver results came back weird.

I had a gp appointment about 3 weeks ago because I was having back pain and stomach pain. She said I had a UTI (because there was blood etc in a wee sample). I had 3 days of antibiotics but after three days I was feeling worse so went back. She then gave me 7 days of antibiotics.

My dh meanwhile got some dipsticks for pee ( he is an avoid the doctor sort of person).

I finished the 7 days of antibiotics on the weekend. But my back is feeling sore still and I did a dipstick thing which still shows loads of blood and protein.

BUT I have a scan booked for the end of July which is supposed to be looking at I think the heavy periods and liver result - no idea if this is fir kidneys or whatever as well!

So do I just ignore it until then or should I go back - I feel like I’m making a right pain of myself lately and I assume they would just tell me to wait for the scan anyway?

Yep, go back to the GP. Or give them a call and discuss it with them, they may want another sample of urine.

Thanks! I will give them a ring if I don’t feel any better tomorrow 🙂

Back to GP tomorrow.

Just to confirm-you aren’t on your period and getting blood/protein in your urinalysis are you? It’s the first thing we have to ask.
Anyhow, if you can’t get an appointment just drop a sample at reception for the nurse to dip & send to lab. Most surgeries do this. If it isn’t Nitrate positive they may need to see if anything is cultured in the lab before giving antibiotics.

Agree that you should.go back to GP. The antibiotics haven't worked as you still have symptoms.

Meyou - no not on period 🙂.

My UTI lasted months and eventually was blasted with 3 weeks of strong antibiotics (they gave me 1 weeks and I got my OH to get another 2 weeks worth) it was the only way! I was left with a severely damaged bladder that took months to heal. I kept getting fobbed off by doctors who insisted on 3 day courses of antis. What a joke.

I've been UTI free for 9 months and pain free for 5. It feels fabulous. Don't take no for an answer

Oranges I had three days then I had 7 days of co-amoxiclav (?) i don’t have a temperature any more so that’s and improvement at least!

My doctors were awful at prescribing.
I got given a week and sent my OH to his doctors (different) with my sample and he was given 2 weeks worth- Nitrofurantoin- makes your wee neon. Anyway, 3 weeks of that stuff after a year of being fobbed off with 3 day courses or resistant ones and it finally worked. I used to combat it with paracetamol, water and sachets. It was only after it had gone I realised how bad I felt.

I got UTI symptoms for months afterwards but urine came back clear- my bladder was really inflamed and damaged from the prolonged UTI that I had to cut out certain foods and rely on the cystitis sachets for relief. Eventually it got better and better and now I'm fine. But wow, never, ever again. Wish I had had a different doctor and pushed harder. I was told I probably had an STI (there was no way I could have) or that it wasn't a big deal. Nope, just doctors worrying about anti biotic resistance and not giving me the dosage I needed. I haven't had a UTI since the 3 week blast.

Oranges that’s the strange thing - I had no pain when peeing or need to ore more often or anything like that.
Just literally back pain and the top of my stomach was sore and then the blood protein etc in the sample.

I know the back pain started about a month ago now but no idea how long the extra stuff has been in my wee I have never though to check before lol Grin

Is it your upper right stomach? Could it be gall stones? Yes back to dr might be some more antibiotics needed.
