To think Emmerdale shouldn't be doing this story? (Upsetting baby subject, caution)

Saw in a TV a mag. The body of a newborn baby is going to be found buried at a high school. The police realize the mother must be one of the characters and an investigation begins. The story is going to be one of thoss "guess who?" type things. AIBU to think this is innapropriate for a 7pm soap? I usually don't get up in arms about soap stories but I feel this is a step too far.

I think it's crass at best and grossly offensive at worst. Maybe I am extra upset by it as there was a case of this last year in my area and it was utterly awful, reading about it made me feel sick. Hate that something like this is going to be used by a soap for shock factor.

Bump. Guess I'm overreacting?

Just don't watch soaps. They are simply awful. Vote with your feet.

Soap operas are meant to be a reflection of real life.

Hollyoaks is on even earlier and does similar distressing storylines.

Usually if they want to show upsetting content, they have a nine o'clock showing.

They've covered every other storyline, including cot death, so i don't see the difference tbh.

Soaps reflect real life, seems they are doing exactly that.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 24/06/2019 19:15

I see no issues- it’s a soap, all story lines could be distressing to someone

Justthetwothankyou · 24/06/2019 19:17

Soaps seem more depressing than real life...so I gave up on them years ago for my own sanity.

Lazypuppy · 24/06/2019 19:18

YABU this is what soaps do, there has been tonnes of distressing storylines, it raises awareness and reflects real life.

Iltavilli · 24/06/2019 19:23

With PP - just don’t watch it (as it is crap anyway)

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 24/06/2019 19:23

Emmerdale have done storylines involving bodies before, and still births and babies dying. I don't see this as much different? They'll do it as a split hour & put the distressing bit after the watershed if it's that bad, too. If a similar case is public enough, it'll be on the 6pm news, anyway so some DC will have heard similar before.

Ooo i hadnt seen about this

My guess is people will assume Gabby but it will be someone less obvious ....
