I get so embarrassed / uncomfortable at things that have nothing to do with me that I can’t deal with it.

Example; those practical joke shows where people are making fools of themselves for a laugh.

Most people cringe for others but also find it funny. I have to turn the tv off because I feel so embarrassed even though I’m not there and it’s got absolutely nothing to do with me!

My DH thinks I’m so weird. Am I alone or does the cringing for others get too much for anyone else?

I'm with you on so many parts of this-I love the bits of the Office Ricky Gervais isn't in, but I'm just so mortified for Brent's deluded ideas about himself that it makes me want to cry. Also, all the slapstick Ross Friends stuff; the teeth whitening and the peach women's jumper-just ruin a good episode!

The singing thing I'm split on-I love singing, and do it aLOT, ( music leader at primary school!) and will sing anywhere and everywhere, much to people's irritation (or now I discover, "fremdshamen") however, ask someone to spontantously sing or perform an instrument ...like they used to in Blind Date, or people interviewing children seem to constantly do on the radio, and I want to crawl inside my own head so I can block my ears from the inside.

I also want to die when they do a little pre interview with people about their own life on quizzes.
And people having to open gifts in front of others, like big birthdays or baby showers. I hate it, and I hate doing it as well, feel absolutely mortified before, during and after.
God this is very cathartic, thanks!

I also hate ' sex scenes' in films or dramas.
I sort of hide my eyes or leave the room!

YANBU.

I can't watch prank shows, specifically the American one on Comedy Central with 1 man out and about being fed embarrassing things to do via an earpiece. I can't even watch the ads for it.

I love Graham Norton but usually watch on a Saturday morning. When Madonna was on I actually deleted it rather than sit through the cringe-fest, having read so many status updates on Facebook about her being an embarrassment (and I have loved Madonna for 30 years!)

GooodMythicalMorning · 24/06/2019 18:51

@TheFastandCurious I'm exactly the same. cant watch it at all.

ScreamingValenta · 24/06/2019 18:53

I also hate ' sex scenes' in films or dramas.

I don't mind those ... unless I'm watching with my parents in the room! I'm in my 40s and they're in their 70s but I feel as embarrassed as a teenager if that happens! Blush

Same here. I hate prank shows. And I can't watch The Office. I think the sensation of cringing is one of the most awful things.

Bluerussian · 24/06/2019 21:03

TheFastandCurious - Eeewww! Not seen that one yet.
I think blokes would be put off women for life after watching that - and the pretty incontinence pads and the anti-thrush stuff.

IHaveBrilloHair · 24/06/2019 21:06

Definitely vaginal dryness, also the constipation ones with women laughing over brunch.
I cringe for the actors.

Lycanthropology · 26/06/2019 19:41

I get like this if I see Richard Curtis films. So blooming awful and unfunny. There’s always a bumbling man and sassy woman combo that’s so buttock-clenchingly awful.
In one of them, there was the “I’m just a girl, standing in front of a boy, asking him to love her” scene which made me feel physically sick. I had to leave the room convulsed with weird sobbing as I cringed myself almost inside out.

It means you have empathy supposedly

OMG I had to stop reading this thread because I am cringing so much on the other posters' behalf (should that be 'behalves?)
