To think many mainstream songs now sound like adult Nursery Rhymes?

Vocoder vocals and words being repeated three times. They're catchy, but a bit crap.

I think a lot of modern day songs are written by the same handful of songwriters. There's quite an interesting video on you tube about it somewhere.

I don’t know if it’s a modern phenomenon, a lot of pop songs have relied on repetition through the last 50 odd years.

That's a good point re repetition as you can hear many songs from the past that sound like more successful versions but it seems to me that there was more mainstream variety then than now.

Yes! I was trying to say the same thing to DH the other day and couldn't describe it. I'm not musically trained and don't know how.

Plinky plonky simple very repetitive chorus. Or verse. Just like kids would all chant together.
