To think summer clothes are a bit shit and it’s easier to look stylish in the cooler months?

I’ve been trying to find summer clothes. AIBU to want clothes that are good quality and will actually feel cool and comfortable to wear and look okay?

Everything seems to be super thin, weird lengths, sweaty fabrics or has patterns that look like a migraine with a hangover, or ditsy florals. Tank tops all seem to be racerback - we don’t all want to show off our bra.

It seems that it’s a lot easier to be comfortable and stylish in the autumn and winter. Even ordinary jeans and a jumper look better than most summer clothes.

Yes I could not agree more. I also love a nice tailored coat ❤️

CheezerGoode · 22/06/2019 17:25

Yerrrsss!!!!!

DugHug · 22/06/2019 17:29

Most people don’t have a perfect body. It’s easier to hide imperfections under layers of thick fabric. Summer clothes make me look like a sack of potatoes.

ragged · 22/06/2019 17:29

I can't get hang of winter styles at all. I'm much better dressed in summer clothes.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 22/06/2019 17:31

Couldn't disagree more. I love the stylish simplicity of a dress and sandals. Winter dressing is a faff.

Felicia4 · 22/06/2019 17:35

I disagree. I have big boobs and winter clothes make me look 3 sizes bigger and/or pregnant.

SwedishEdith · 22/06/2019 17:39

Oh, god, yes. I look shit in the summer.

BumandChips · 22/06/2019 17:40

Oh no I live summer clothes! Winter is just boring jumpers and loads of layers.

legrandesmeaulnes2 · 22/06/2019 17:40

Definitely ! Love my winter wardrobe and boots / coats .

CoffeeMilkNoSugar · 22/06/2019 17:43

I can't show off my legs in the Winter, so nope - BRING ON THE SUMMER! Grin

NCforthis2019 · 22/06/2019 17:45

Yabu. Do you know how many types of summer clothing there are out there - categorising then as only racer backs, ditzy florals odd lengths floral prints is a little bit strange.

PinguDance · 22/06/2019 17:45

I look much better in summer especially if it’s a actually hot and I get to wear my proper summer weather clothes. However I used to live in th Middle East and this was my secret weapon to dressing well in the heat. I tend to drew more ‘formally’ I guess and cover up a bit.

ipswichwitch · 22/06/2019 17:46

I can’t seem to look at all stylish in summer. I look like a hot, sweaty sack of potatoes
Autumn/winter clothes are made for me. Even a friend of mine who does that whole “doing you colours” thing says I’m very autumnal. I know

TickledOnion · 22/06/2019 17:47

I totally agree. And all the tops have spaghetti straps. Surely most people wear bras. I don't wan't my thick 30H bra straps on show.

Toodleoopuddle · 22/06/2019 17:54

I'm totally the opposite!! I only feel comfortable in summer clothes and feel totally weighed down by winter clothes. I'd love to be able to dress in the winter so that I felt good. It makes me really sad

HelloyouKant · 22/06/2019 17:56

Agree, agree, agree I love the weather but look all sloppy in summer

LadyGodivasCat · 23/06/2019 02:05

Felicia, interesting that you feel bigger in the winter. I’m the total opposite - I am on the larger side with chunky boobs and find it so much easier to find flattering winter clothes.

NC, it’s a fair comment about types of clothes but the majority of clothes on sale in my nearest city are genuinely awful. Lurid or twee prints on tops with lace, frills and sequins are not uncommon, neither is ruching on cropped trousers. To be fair, it’s not exactly a fashion metropolis but online doesn’t seem much better.

Maybe I just need to hibernate until September! Grin

Totally agree.

I haven't seen anyone looking stylish since it's been hot. I can never look good in shorts, short skirts just look too casual also.

I have got some wide leg, long loose trousers and these look OK and are cool.

The problem is showing skin - my legs aren't tanned yet and my arms are wobbly so need to be covered.

Roll on autumn Grin

Fucktuates · 23/06/2019 02:11

Urgh ... yes. I’ve put on over two stone since last summer and I just want winter back! I’m currently still wearing the same work clothes I’ve been wearing since November and I hate this expectation that we should all start showing off our shoulders and ankles in the office just because it’s June now.

managedmis · 23/06/2019 02:14

One thing that really gets my goat is batwing sleeves. Even skinny teenagers look fat in them, what chance do I have?

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 23/06/2019 02:15

I hate summer clothes, everything looks cheap, I don’t want acres of my flesh on show trying to keep cool, I like tailored clothes, my idea of style hell is wafting around in a maxi dress and flip flops.

cheeseislife8 · 23/06/2019 02:19

I totally agree. I'm tall and fat and pretty much all summer stuff looks rubbish on me! Give me jumpers, boots and scarves

Limpshade · 23/06/2019 03:41

I live where it's always hot and yes, I always look like crap Grin Sometimes I just want to put on my jeans, ankle boots and camel coat. Definitely have not mastered the art of chic summer dressing.

HennyPennyHorror · 23/06/2019 03:47

Agree and as someone who now lives in Australia....I hate trying to find nice clothes in summer. It's HOT here for months so as a middle aged woman, I need to ensure I'm cool but that my pale bod isn;t on show.

I favour loose dresses with a three quarter length sleeve and sandals.

A lot of older women here wear shorts and vest tops but look terrible....I'd rather look like a drama teacher/hippie in my flowing frocks than get my saggy thighs out!

Stormy76 · 23/06/2019 03:50

My winter wardrobe is excellent.....much better than my summer one .....roll on the end of sept
