Sorry but it's been driving me mad on here today. If there's more than one of something you don't need an apostrophe. So parents, cameras, books etc.

I can't believe our education system is so bad that this hasn't been taught.

Rant over.

Your so right- that would of driven me mad two Wink

BringOnTheScience · 22/06/2019 13:57

It is taught.

It is taught repeatedly.

Doesn't mean that everyone remembers though.

Sparklesocks · 22/06/2019 13:58

Maybe some poster’s aren’t as good at grammar

Jemima232 · 22/06/2019 13:58

Making a point does not require that you use exclamation marks, either.

Or shouty capitals.

Twotome · 22/06/2019 13:59

It’s not he’s fault. His just not very bright. Grin

AtmosClock · 22/06/2019 14:00

Except in Dutch, where it always confuses me. In Dutch, two baby’s but the babys bed. I often see Dutch people making this mistake in English

IsabellaLinton · 22/06/2019 14:00

Personally, I could care less Wink

Not really, I’m with you OP.

Barchester · 22/06/2019 14:00

It drives me mad too, as do the other errors highlighted by TanteRose.

flumpybear · 22/06/2019 14:01

If you're talking about parents' attitudes you use an apostrophe, it's the plural possessive.

DonkeyHohtay · 22/06/2019 14:05

I was browsing a website the other day which had an advert for "Two communication's manager's".

Didn't apply. Although I could see why they were in dire need of the staff.

IsabellaLinton · 22/06/2019 14:06

It's totally fine for some people to make this mistake

It’s not fine. I spent years slaving away in English lessons in pursuit of good grammar and it pains me that others haven’t suffered as much as I did! Wink

Wakemeuuuup · 22/06/2019 14:09

Ah but is it Father's day or Fathers day. Does the day belong to a Dad or just a day for all Dads

boughtnotbrought · 22/06/2019 14:12

YANBU, and while I'm here can I highlight my user name for those confused about the word to use after they've been to the shops and purchased somethingWink

I can't believe our education system is so bad that this hasn't been taught.

It is taught, several times at many points throughout primary school and, I'm sure, secondary school. Even if it's not the point of the lesson, I explain to children who use an apostrophe for a plural why it's wrong to do so.

The problem is, in my opinion, that the written word is everywhere now so mistakes such as apostrophes in plurals and of instead of have become commonplace and normalised. Another issue is that people over rely on auto correct so if their phone puts an erroneous apostrophe in they don't correct it.

SilverySurfer · 22/06/2019 14:33

People who type could/would/should OF instead of HAVE drive me mad.

Woody68 · 22/06/2019 16:12

Are you the clever girl rolls eyes

CaptainButtock · 22/06/2019 16:15

Plural’s

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 22/06/2019 16:16

Multiple apologies’s

jackernanna · 22/06/2019 16:16

YABVU some of us no longer have apostrophes and would give anything to have just one more sentence with them in.

cakesandphotos · 22/06/2019 16:18

DH got a pair of socks for his birthday that say "Dads socks" I might have to burn them

CaptainButtock · 22/06/2019 16:26

jackernanna Grin

Karwomannghia · 22/06/2019 16:27

I’m always bloody teaching it. It’s specified in the curriculum and covered several times in different year groups in both plurals and apostrophes.
Also, there is no apostrophe in its as in belonging to it, e.g. the bird flapped its wings. Even my iPhone insists on adding one in!

Sparklingbrook · 22/06/2019 16:28

Ugh. Shouting and multiple exclamation marks.
