Sorry but it's been driving me mad on here today. If there's more than one of something you don't need an apostrophe. So parents, cameras, books etc.

I can't believe our education system is so bad that this hasn't been taught.

Rant over.

OP posts:
TheCanterburyWhales · 22/06/2019 16:31

Can I point out that your OP is missing several commas?

You need one after your first word, after your "so", and after your "if" clause. I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS ISNT TAUGHT IN SCHOOLS etc etc.

Watch those stones in that glass house of yours.

Sparklesocks · 22/06/2019 16:34

cakesandphotos just tippex an apostrophe on Smile

QueenoftheBiscuitTin · 22/06/2019 16:36

You're missing some commas. How ironic.

HomeMadeMadness · 22/06/2019 16:38

Your totally wrong in you're opinion. You clearly should have listened more in you're grammar lesson's it sounds like you're teacher's were wasting they're time and there effort with you.

Mabelface · 22/06/2019 16:41

I'll just add that "a lot" is actually 2 separate words.

TheFeet · 22/06/2019 16:42

YANBU. Especially when it's inconsistent - eg. dogs and cat's (both plurals) in the same post! I do get that some people don't know how to use them (and some are typos) but some people seem to just scatter them around randomly.

Backwoodsgirl · 22/06/2019 16:48

Local spellings here, I would add Lobstah to the list

PotatoesDieInHotCars · 22/06/2019 17:01

*apostrophies

DrPeppersPhD · 22/06/2019 17:23

@AtmosClock
Dutch confuses me so much sometimes. I've only been learning about 4 months and that's been sporadic so I'm not very good, but baby's really confused me Grin. Do you speak Dutch, if you don't mind me asking?
Of course in Latin we don't have apostrophes at all.

MrsBadCrumblesClarinet · 22/06/2019 19:18

MOT's. It's always MOT's on every bloody signAngry

EdWinchester · 22/06/2019 19:24

It's always so random - some words can be plural without an apostrophe, but the next will have one.

I see some of my friends do this on social media. I know there are no learning difficulties, so it must be that they were simply never taught the absolute basics. They are often the ones that use 'should of', too.

Babdoc · 22/06/2019 19:25

MrsBadcrumble, I think one can make a reasonable case for an apostrophe on MOT’s, as it represents the missing word “test”.
The complete phrase is Ministry of Transport Test, after all.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 22/06/2019 19:27

All of these things drive me potty. I can't actually read some posts because my ASD goes into overdrive. My brain needs to correct all of the mistakes so I can't focus on the gist of the comment. People will come on and say that this opinion is mean, or grammar and punctuation don't matter; they bloody well do!

I also hate seeing 'women' when a singular 'woman' should be used.

SachaStark · 22/06/2019 19:32

So many people on MN don’t seem to understand the difference between “baby’s” and “babies”. You see it ALL the time.

“It was in my babies pram,” when they are clearly only talking about ONE baby. Drives me crazy when I see it.

ethelfleda · 22/06/2019 19:33

YANBU OP.
For some reason, I see it more often in the word ‘photo’s’

cakeandchampagne · 22/06/2019 19:34

@BobbyBrewstersMagicTorch Thank’s for the great thread! Smile

ethelfleda · 22/06/2019 19:34

I also hate it when a restaurant or cafe has a sign asking you a question to try and get you to buy something, but doesn’t put a question mark at the end.. for example -

Why not try our delicious coffee cake.

Grrrrr

DavidBowiesBulge · 22/06/2019 19:37

DS's shirt says 'I love ZZZZ's' on it. If it wasn't a gift I'd demote it to the rag drawer.

m0therofdragons · 22/06/2019 19:39

It's also bad form to capitalise words to make a point. Perhaps consider your own writing style before judging others.

Corrag · 22/06/2019 19:42

Can someone explain the thinking behind this one? Ten items, eight plurals, one apostrophe. Why? Why does "drape's" get special treatment? At least be consistent.

To point out that PLURALS DO NOT NEED APOSTROPHES!!
SachaStark · 22/06/2019 19:42

Yep, I’ve just seen “all be it” on another thread 🙄

Honestly, good written communication IS important, we are all taught it at school, and unless you have a clear reason why not to (e.g. DH has severe dyslexia, and I would never critique him for his spelling and grammar), then I think it’s just laziness to not use it correctly.

modgepodge · 22/06/2019 19:43

I think it’s more common on words ending in a vowel. Pizza’s, photo’s, mini’s.

Drives me up the wall too.

MythicalBiologicalFennel · 22/06/2019 19:44

Thats right
Thank's OP Grin

2010Aussie · 22/06/2019 19:56

People saying 'Your' when they mean 'You're' as in "I hope your well". My well what?

Grrrrrr!

Geraniumpink · 22/06/2019 19:57

My old school used to regularly have parent’s evening....
