To want to understand how to reset my relationship with food

I’m a bit heavier than is healthy and need to lose 5 or 6 lb to get my BMI down. I know I can go on a diet and lose it but the fundamental problem is my relationship with food which is not great. I have a very odd diet, partly very healthy and then partly comfort eating crap, nutrition poor carbs, crisps, chocolate. So for me the real issue is how to I change my relationship with food? I feel that if I can do that I will lose the weight I need to and probably more and long term that will be much more beneficial than a diet.

My friend is/was a binge eater and she follows Bright Lines Eating. The woman, Susan Pierce, was a drug addict who once clean turned her attention to food and thus became huge.
I’d say I have binge eating tendencies and since all my cravings were starchy carbs and sugar I have quit the lot, cold turkey.
I recommend the low carb bootcamp on here. Once you’ve done the detox the cravings really diminish. You are no longer ruled by food and have more energy

PS you sound very similar to me. I was reasonably healthy it’s not like I ever went to McDs or anything but as I’m in my 40s even the odd binge was something I could no longer get away with. I was always around 2st over weight but as an apple shape carried it all on my stomach. Hideous. The weight has all gone now so it can be done

I think working out when and why you eat crap might help. Look at sleep, stress, boredom, 'treating' yourself; write a food diary.

I'm low carbing at the moment and that's reset me. But it's a lot if you just want to have a look at it.
