To think it’s quite weird and unhelpful to have a list of people that you can’t / won’t work with

A friend and I were talking about a senior colleague from my old company. By the time I left, he’d had a few people he wouldn’t work with (I wasn’t one of them, thank goodness). At the time, I didn’t think much of it - I think that a few people there were like this so it was clearly okay in the office culture.

However now I think it’s a bit strange. I do see that people who aren’t as able or motivated as others are frustrating but refusing to work with them means that other colleagues have to work with them instead.

It’s surprising when we’ll paid professionals think it is professional to point blank refuse to have someone on their team for a project. What do you think?

I agree with you. There are certain people I don't like to have in my project teams but I suck it up for the reason you said - if I don't work with them, someone else has to.
