To let DD stay off school so she can buy an ice cream?

DH told DD (7) she could have an ice cream at the weekend after she rode up the hill to our town for the first time without stopping. She didn't eat it as wasn't hungry. DH gave her money to buy an ice cream on Tuesday evening.
Wednesday pm we were out in the heat all afternoon then she had football training until 6. In the car in the way home she drank .75l of water. As soon as we got in, she threw up the water. Kept her home yesterday, fine except she complained once just before dinner that her tummy felt weird, she felt sick and only ate some cucumber and a slice of bread, wasn't actually sick. She's past the 24 hour quarantine and seems perfectly fine this morning. She said she's too ill to go to school, but that I should pack the cool bag for the shopping and she'll bring her money Grin
I have a history of dislike (atrocious treatment of my elder DC with SN) with the teacher she has today, who is not her class teacher.
Send her in or let her buy her ice cream?

Send her to school obviously

toastyarmadillo · 21/06/2019 06:41

Are you sure its 24hrs off ours is 48hrs after the last instance of vomiting x

RickAstleyGaveMeUp · 21/06/2019 06:42

It's normally a 48 hour exclusion after vomiting so I wouldn't send her in for that reason, but I wouldn't keep her off for a an icecream or a teacher you don't like.

Reallybadidea · 21/06/2019 06:42

Not sure of the dilemma really, she's well enough to go to school, she goes to school. I'd have sent her yesterday, tbh as it doesn't sound as though she was actually ill Confused

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 21/06/2019 06:45

You dislike her Friday teacher so she gets every Friday off? Hmm

Bunnybigears · 21/06/2019 06:47

Send her to school and get her an ice cream afterwards. Doesnt sound like she had a sickness bug sounds like she over exerted herself in the heat then drank water too fast and that was why she was sick.

RainbowOfChaos · 21/06/2019 06:48

Yesterday she was as miserable as sin and lay on the sofa feeling sorry for herself. Warm to the touch, but never hit 38deg.
No, definitely 24 hours in the book. 24 hours free of illness or raised temperature before sending back to school.

Of course she doesn't get every Friday off Hmm

If she is too ill for school she is to ill for ice cream.

Villanellesproudmum · 21/06/2019 06:50

48 hours for S&D at all my daughters schools after the last period of sickness.

IceRebel · 21/06/2019 06:50

She said she's too ill to go to school, but that I should pack the cool bag for the shopping and she'll bring her money Grin

She seems to think if she stays off she will get to have a fun day? When I was to ill for school, it would be a boring day no TV, no treats and certainly no trips out to buy ice cream.

Villanellesproudmum · 21/06/2019 06:51

Crossed post, wonder why schools vary?

Morgan12 · 21/06/2019 06:51

Ah keep her off and get the ice cream. YOLO and all that. It's a one off.

Dotty1970 · 21/06/2019 06:51

Firstly who needs to be hungry when they eat ice-cream!
Secondly you are a complete Biscuit if you don't send her because you don't like the teacher!

YouJustDoYou · 21/06/2019 06:52

Send her to school.

RainbowOfChaos · 21/06/2019 06:53

If she is too ill for school she is to ill for ice cream.
That's what I said yesterday! And she accepted it and left the table to lie down.

She won't have a fun day. I have lots of errands to run and the weekend shop to do this morning. It's going to be a rush to get it all done before lunch (school finishes at 12 on Fridays)

School

Yogurtcoveredricecake · 21/06/2019 06:55

She should go to school. They sell ice cream after 3.30pm too.

IceRebel · 21/06/2019 06:57

If school is only a half day I would definitely send her in, a few hours with friends will fly by.

niceupthedanceagain · 21/06/2019 06:57

Keep her off so she doesn't pass it to others

CloserIAm2Fine · 21/06/2019 06:58

YABU

If she’s too ill for school she’s too ill for ice cream.

Stop acting like a 7 year old and start acting like a parent!

IAmAlwaysLikeThis · 21/06/2019 06:58

I don't think it's good to keep kids off school unless necessary. My mum was way too lax about this stuff and I developed no sense of discipline as a result.

My husband was in school unless he was dying and he has always had a good work ethic.

LarryGreysonsDoor · 21/06/2019 06:59

Our school says 24 hours so that people don’t feel forced to keep DC off school when they have been sick just because they ate too much and ran about too fast as compared to a sickness bug.
It’s up to the parents.

Anyway. You said that DH told her she could have an ice cream at the weekend. This isn’t the weekend.

00100001 · 21/06/2019 07:02

School.

She's not ill, and never was.

Zoflorabore · 21/06/2019 07:03

I've had one just leave secondary school and one still at primary school and I've never heard of the 24 hour rule before, always 48 hours.

Are you in the U.K.?

I think your disdain for the teacher is clouding your judgement though op. It's as though you are holding some sort of grudge which makes it easier to justify your intentions.

If she is well then send her in and get ice cream after 12. I don't understand why you would keep her off sick if she is ok, is it easier for you with all of your errands to run? That's what it sounds like to me and the ice cream is being used as the excuse.
