Log book thief

AIBU or over reacting to feel pissed off at the fact that OH has taken my car log book from all MY paperwork and then 'accidently' written in it, as he thought it was his log book (apparently both of our logbooks were together).

He sold his car so he needed to fill out then rip section on his log book and send to DVLA. However there are just too many discrepancies to his explainaton.

I was looking at family outing photos on his phone and noticed a pic of my log book, pic dated 24th may, alarm bells rang in my head, went to look for my log book in MY paperwork but couldn't find it look again and again. Then I just asked OH he went silent and said I don't know. I then said well you were last to see it as you've got pics on your phone. His reply was just utter denial and adamant he knows nothing. I got upset and left room he then comes downstairs an takes out my log book from his drawer and says it was with his log book and that he got them mixed up and ended up writing in wrong.

My log book was in a completely different place to his so him saying it was together is a lie. I found picture on his phone of my log book, why did he take a pic??

He has previous for lying , just lies about things, even petty things. He lies about his DoB AND even his name on official things.

Anyone shed light on why he would try to be dodgy and filling out my log book instead of his

Maybe he used your car as collateral on a logbook loan - I don’t know how they work, but I would assume that you need proof of ownership.

LocksMyth · 21/06/2019 06:42

Logbook Loan?

TyrionsNextWife · 21/06/2019 06:52

It’s a loan that uses your car as collateral, so if you don’t pay the loan back your car gets repossessed.

NatashaRomanov · 21/06/2019 07:01

He lies about his name and DOB on official things?

Why are you with someone who seems to find it so easy to lie??

LagunaBubbles · 21/06/2019 07:03

Why on earth would you lie about your name and date of birth on official things, it must be a dodgy reason!

DoneLikeAKipper · 21/06/2019 07:07

Why have you posted this twice?

Iggly · 21/06/2019 07:11

Maybe a mistake @DoneLikeAKipper

Honestly Hmm

OP do you need a reason when he has form??? Why are you with him? He sounds awful.

Namechangeymcnamechange11 · 21/06/2019 07:13

Logbook loan. Why are you with someone dishonest? He sounds awful.

DoneLikeAKipper · 21/06/2019 07:15

@Iggly, is understand if it was seconds apart, but the first one was posted at 1am so no need for the Hmm. Could well be a mistake or glitch, or the op could have posted twice, what’s the harm in asking?

catinboots99 · 21/06/2019 07:28
Confused
katewhinesalot · 21/06/2019 07:31

Oh dear. The loan answers sound ominous. Why does he normally lie on official things?

MrsMozartMkII · 21/06/2019 07:33

If it is a log book loan what chance you getting the truth out of him?

Idontwanttotalk · 21/06/2019 07:40

How can anyone get a loan using a car as collateral when the Vehicle Registration document states on it that it isn't proof of ownership?

Do you have a receipt for your vehicle to prove ownership in case he has used the car as security for a loan?

Also, I agree with others about his lies. Why are you with him? If he lies about even his name on official papers then he must be prepared to lie about everything. Does he have serious MH issues?

Unburnished · 21/06/2019 07:50

YANBU to feel pissed off but what did you expect, given his previous form? He’s a liar. Why did he sell his car? Do you share a bank account?

ThatsUnusual · 21/06/2019 07:55

You honestly want to be with someone who is a known liar? Set your bar a little higher!

BlueSkiesLies · 21/06/2019 07:57

It’s a bit JK isn’t it?

I’m sure you can do better than a lying creep.

Flatwhite101 · 21/06/2019 08:11

As others have said, there's a fairly suspicious reason why he might do this. I would suggest you check your credit report too in case.

BarbaraofSevillle · 21/06/2019 08:13

If he's used your logbook as collateral in a loan then has this loan been taken out in your name, because obviously you wouldn't be able to use someone else's car as collateral for a loan.

If he lies on official paperwork, it sounds like he is committing fraud and he may be doing it in your name too. You need to get a copy of your credit record (you can do this for free on Moneysavingexpert, no need to sign up to any of the free trials for rip off monthly subscriptions) to check if there's any credit you don't recognise. If there is, you need to contact www.cifas.org.uk/ to get a marker put on your credit file so he can't do anything else in your name. Fraud is very very serious and it will be hard to prove you didn't know anything about it so you need to take steps to protect yourself.

And dump him, obviously.

User2638394 · 21/06/2019 08:15

He sounds like a criminal! Why is he so shady on official things? Nobody honest would behave this way...

ZacAndMe · 21/06/2019 08:20

Yes sorry everyone accidently posted twice

.

NauseousMum · 21/06/2019 08:43

He's doing something dodgy that's for sure. Contact the dvla for advice on the logbook.

NauseousMum · 21/06/2019 08:44

And break up with your lying OH.
