To think that the world is becoming a worse place

In the last few years the left and the right have become further apart, and views more polarised.

The haves (and there are enough here boasting about their cleaners) and the have nots have become further apart.

But worse of all is the hatred. Especially the far right. Where they have people who are not like them. Race. Religion. Traditional in the sense of male or female.

AIBU to think that the centre ground has to be the best and that people are crazy not to see it. And that those that vote for the right (well those that are not mega rich) can't see the long term cost to the likes of the NHS and how much it will cost their children and grandchildren.

After the Second World War there was huge shock about how far hatred / racism etc could take people and the horrific things ordinary people can do... Problem is, all that has faded out of living memory now. So the far right ideas begin t creep back.

Yes it is definitely getting worse.

Lifeisabeach09 · 20/06/2019 22:38

It's not necessarily getting worse. We just hear more about the negativity.

If you look at 1800s Britain, we had slavery, racism, extreme poverty, war, no rights for women, sexism. Extreme views-whites were superior, marxism.

So things have improved.

1960s-racism, segregation, nationalism, communism.

What I'm trying to say in my beer-fuelled way: everything changes relatively.

I think things are improving.

I grew up in the 60s. So much was wrong, Marital violence against women ignored, casual racism, homosexuals forcibly castrated.

Speakout. And the things you talk about are what the far right think the same should happen again!
