To not buy DS new school shoes with 4 weeks to go

DS (9) came out of school today proudly holding the sole of his school shoes. Reckons he was playing football too fiercely and it "just fell off" 🙄.
He can't wear them for school- no way. I know that if I buy new ones now he will do that annoying thing of growing half a size in the holidays. I can't buy ones that are too big now because they will be too big and are just as likely to get damaged when he plays football because they won't be a proper fit.

AIBU for thinking he could wear dark trainers for the next 4 weeks? At my school this would be ok but he doesn't go to my school.

I will ask in the morning but don't want to seem a CF so testing the waters here first. :)

I’ve done this a few times

Should be ok

TeenTimesTwo · 20/06/2019 17:32

superglue?

firawla · 20/06/2019 17:32

I bought my ds black trainers for the same reason, luckily no one has said anything!

Davidbowiestrousers · 20/06/2019 17:33

Just get some second hand ones from charity shop or ebay

YourSarcasmIsDripping · 20/06/2019 17:36

Just talk to the school.

Mine would be understanding despite being quite hot on uniform. So would DD's .

If not, a second hand pair, new pair and fingers crossed he doesn't actually grow in the hols or try to borrow some.

Can you see if there any going cheap/free on Gumtree or similar? Or put a plea out on your local Facebook page?

orangeshoebox · 20/06/2019 17:37

that's when I got supermarket cheapo shoes.

thankfully dc now are at a no uniform school. such a relief!

Heckythump1 · 20/06/2019 17:39

You can get school shoes for a tenner in Asda.

ThereIsIron · 20/06/2019 17:42

Our school keeps a stock of uniform for this exact scenario ... have you checked?

Silversky70 · 20/06/2019 17:44

I'd get cheap asda shoes.

Pinkmouse6 · 20/06/2019 17:45

I’d buy cheap supermarket ones, I had to do this for my DD last year and the supermarket ones actually ended up being really great in the end.

AlwaysCheddar · 20/06/2019 17:46

Superglue is your friend

Hoppinggreen · 20/06/2019 17:47

My DS luckily had a pair of black sketchers that he is now wearing as school shoes as there was no way I was buying new ones with 3 weeks to go

herculepoirot2 · 20/06/2019 18:14

Where does it end, though? If they let him wear trainers, they have to let everyone do it.

kiki22 · 20/06/2019 18:15

Asda sell school shoes for £8

Our school has trainers they are so much better last so much longer plain black and brand.

Furiosa · 20/06/2019 18:35

The asda ones are cheap(er) but at 9yrs old his feet will be in the bigger range so more like £15.

As it's a primary school they can't force school uniform, just send him in in black trainers.

BikeRunSki · 20/06/2019 18:43

This is where you need Shoe Goo (glue). I cx this find how to link it, without linking my Amazon account too, but search for it on there.

ThatLibraryMiss · 20/06/2019 18:49

Contact adhesive (think Evostick) will be better than superglue because it's flexible. Poundland have a spray of it in the DIY section.

I had this and just bought a cheap pair of black plimsole style ones for the last couple of weeks.
