Pick up items that are on the floor?!

I'm not talking heaps of clothes/junk etc, but just odd items that are on the floor when she is there?

Today's examples

  • Two A4 posters have fallen off DD's door in her bedroom. They are still there, on the floor behind the door.
  • Same for a teddy that fell out of bed; left on the floor.
  • DH's fathers day card blew off the bedside table; left on the floor
  • pair of socks and a tennis ball left in the middle of ds's floor

We are a pretty minimal family; there is not much clutter/mess, so it is very noticeable when something is on the floor.

Is this weird?

I have my own cleaning company and to be fair I would have picked them up off the floor and either put them onto a surface I had cleaned or put them on the bed folded... was they there when you left earlier?

DitheringBlidiot · 19/06/2019 14:14

If you knew these things were out of place why didn’t you move them before the cleaner came?

STST · 19/06/2019 14:56

The 'if' is key in your sentence....

I'm not questioning MY ability to pick things up off a floor when I see them. My question was whether it is unusual for a (paid) cleaner to not do so.

Our previous cleaners have done as cindersrella says - just wanted to know which one is the anomaly....

My cleaner picks up dirty laundry from the floor and puts it on our bed ConfusedAngry Would rather she left it there.

Bluntness100 · 19/06/2019 15:00

I'm also curious as to why if you guys knew they were on the floor you didn't pick them up.

I'd assume my cleaner would pick them up though. But if something falls on the floor we pick it up so I'm not sure . Confused

Bluntness100 · 19/06/2019 15:01

This makes no sense. Either you knew they were there and left them, or didn't know they were on the floor and as such have no idea when they fell onto the floor and if it was before or after the cleaner.

Teaandbi5cuit5 · 19/06/2019 15:04

@chindersrella do you have a company called bibbidi bobbodi boo? Seems fitting given your username?

HereForAdvice2019 · 19/06/2019 15:08

What if it all fell AFTER the cleaner left? Maybe had windows open and caused a draft that caused it all to fall

BananaCatto · 19/06/2019 15:10

No, cleaners clean not tidy

Herewegoagain123 · 19/06/2019 15:13

Was she supposed to be hoovering the floor, if so, then she should have picked them up to hoover? I do part time cleaning so know I would pick them up.

EmperorBallpitine · 19/06/2019 15:20

My cleaner cleans, tidies a bit, but it drives me mad when the kids leave stuff all over because I feel like I'm paying her to do proper cleaning, wiping , hovering etc not be the nursemaid to people.

STST · 19/06/2019 15:34

I think she hoovers round things rather than picking them up....

OP posts:
fishonabicycle · 19/06/2019 15:37

We had a cleaner who used to hoover round stuff like that!

ShakeYourTailFeathers · 19/06/2019 15:39

The only things on our floor are cat toys and i usually find them in a little pile on the dining room table after the cleaner's been

SimonJT · 19/06/2019 15:41

Anything left laying on the floor is put in a basket and left in the living room. My cleaner is there to vacuum, dust etc, not to rearrange all my crap.

CaptainMyCaptain · 19/06/2019 15:42

Mine picks things up and puts them in odd places like slippers in the waste paper basket and shoes on the chair in the bedroom. Otherwise she is excellent so I don't complain.

Mooey89 · 19/06/2019 15:43

I would expect the cleaner to pick up small bits like that yes.

BlueSkiesLies · 19/06/2019 15:44

They would be picked up and put on a chair / desk / bed or something

But I don’t leave anything on the floor though.

hellsbellsmelons · 19/06/2019 15:46

My cleaner certainly picks things up.
Mostly the house is tidy as I always have a tidy up before she arrives.
But the house is usually spotless when she is done!

BusterTheBulldog · 19/06/2019 15:48

Yep, he’d but anything fallen on nearest surface.

EmeraldShamrock · 19/06/2019 15:49

Could you put in a laundry basket before your cleaner arrives.
I am sure it is pretty grim picking up dirty laundry especially if underwear is included.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 19/06/2019 15:50

Elldub why are you leaving dirty laundry on the floor when your cleaner comes? Hmm

EmeraldShamrock · 19/06/2019 15:50

In answer to OP, yes I'd lift stuff up and put them away. I'd pop the poster on a bed.

Fraxion · 19/06/2019 15:52

Why on earth do you not use a laundry bin?

tomatoesandstew · 19/06/2019 15:59

It depends on the relationship you have with your cleaner.
I know some cleaners who are very clear that they are not tidiers.

We are not super tidy and i make it clear that i need a cleaner and tidier but make an effort to hide most of our rubbish out the way before they come. It strikes me as a bit passive aggressive for the cleaner to leave the fallen poster on the floor.
