Interview Feedback? Is this a bit cheeky?

DH had an interview for promoted post at work yesterday.

He was told today he didn’t get the job, but was given the feedback that he gave “the best presentation of the day, and had some very good ideas.”

They would like him to meet with the person that did get the post so she can implement some of his ideas. He’s just told me this on the phone; and he sounded really annoyed. He thinks the company want to have their cake and eat it too?

Would he be unreasonable to tell them no, if they wanted his ideas implemented they should have given him the job?

I’m not posting and running; but need to pop out in a mo; so will reply to any questions/comments later.

Isn't there some loophole that states ideas specifically for the business you're working for are the intellectual property of the business you work for?

He may not be able to refuse.

But yes. This is cheeky fuckery of an ordet that would leave me looking for another position.....

I'd be really annoyed - essentially they really liked some ideas, but gave the role to someone else (presumably with lesser ideas!) However if he doesn't do this he'll look an arse and then won't go further in the company anyway. What's I'd do is (1) share my ideas but make sure they were a lot less than I actually had and only "half baked" - basically look like I was co-operating but actually not and (2) look for another job starting this evening!

I'd send it across but copy in my manager & her managers so that no one says it was their brilliant idea. After many years contracting & a heck of a lot of interviews I think 9 times out of 10 personality fit wins over experience & test results. Sometimes being really great/very experienced puts other people's noses out of joint & they don't want the competition. I noticed if existing team members from the new job were on the interview panel I often got thin veiled put downs about my good CV.

Bit of a funny one because if they work in the same company they are kind of copyrighted by the company, rather than him? Or am I off the ball?

It's very annoying but he's not in a position to refuse to share the ideas - ether legally nor in terms of his best interests with that company.

He should try and view this as an opportunity to raise his profile within the organisation and aim to ensure he has a leadership role when it comes to implementing these projects. He can position himself as a natural choice when it comes to the next opportunity and if not, he'll have wonderful examples when it comes interviews with other firms.
