Toiletries and makeup in Easy-Jet carry on luggage. Please help!

Asking on behalf of dd who is flying tomorrow. She is just taking a carry on bag.

Her toiletries, all lovingly dispensed into small containers, fit into one small clear plastic zip lock bag.

But her make up does not fit in the same bag. Does this mean she can't take it? Sorry to be useless but I always take hold luggage and no make up on holiday, so it's not something I'm experienced in.

Tia.

It depends what her makeup is, but yes if it’s liquid then yes it needs to be in the bag.

onanothertrain · 18/06/2019 20:01

It all has to go in one bag

ilovejacquescousteau · 18/06/2019 20:02

Yes anything liquid has to be in one bag which must be sealed. Anything else not in the bag which is liquid won't be allowed.

JagerPlease · 18/06/2019 20:03

It's not about easyjet rules but general hand luggage rules, you're only allowed one clear bag of liquids, so any make up that is liquid and doesn't fit in won't be allowed. Most liquid make up is pretty small, can she not squeeze it in?

LoudBatPerson · 18/06/2019 20:03

All liquid makeup products will have to fit in the bag.

The only other option is to buy things after security or when she arrives in her destination.

curlykaren · 18/06/2019 20:04

I thought restrictions on carrying liquids had been lifted?

Nextphonewontbesamsung · 18/06/2019 20:04

Ok, so just the foundation has to go in the bag?

Does mascara count as liquid?

Just one bag for liquids. The airport will remove any additional items and destroy them. Some airports are very strict as the size of the plastic bag so worth checking or use the ones handed out at airport security.

dementedpixie · 18/06/2019 20:06

Yes I'd count mascara as liquid. Eye shadows/ powders, etc don't need to go in the bag. Anything that is a liquid/ gel/ paste needs to go in the bag

burblife · 18/06/2019 20:06

Yes mascara counts. Along with any liquid eyeliner, concealer etc. I've even been made to put cream blusher into the plastic bag before.

OrchidInTheSun · 18/06/2019 20:06

She needs to ditch something or switch.

Things that don't need to go in the bag:

Aerosol deodorant
Dry shampoo
Soap/shampoo bar
Make up remover wipes
Any powder make up

dementedpixie · 18/06/2019 20:06

And the max bag size is 20x20cm

OrchidInTheSun · 18/06/2019 20:07

Alternatively if she has a friend who has less stuff, she can put things in their bag

Parker231 · 18/06/2019 20:07

From Gov.uk - There are restrictions on the amount of liquids you can take in your hand luggage. If possible, pack liquids in your hold baggage (luggage that you check in).

Liquids include:

all drinks, including water
liquid or semi-liquid foods, for example soup, jam, honey and syrups
cosmetics and toiletries, including creams, lotions, oils, perfumes, mascara and lip gloss
sprays, including shaving foam, hairspray and spray deodorants
pastes, including toothpaste
gels, including hair and shower gel
contact lens solution
any other solutions and items of similar consistency
If you do take liquids in your hand luggage:

containers must hold no more than 100ml
containers must be in a single, transparent, resealable plastic bag, which holds no more than a litre and measures approximately 20cm x 20cm
contents must fit comfortably inside the bag so it can be sealed
the bag must not be knotted or tied at the top
you’re limited to 1 plastic bag per person
you must show the bag at the airport security point
Liquids in containers larger than 100ml generally cannot go through security even if the container is only part full. There are some exemptions.

dementedpixie · 18/06/2019 20:08

Sprays do need to go in the bag

OrchidInTheSun · 18/06/2019 20:09

Sorry not aerosol! Stick deodorant is fine. Although I have never put spray deo into the plastic bag and never had an issue.

coffeeforone · 18/06/2019 20:10

Can she take out the biggest and cheapest thing (like a 100ml shower gel) and buy from boots after security so her make up fits.

Or take two clear bags, and as long as she doesn't get a jobsworth on security it should pass though fine. If they refuse, ditch the cheapest thing and do the plan A above.

OrchidInTheSun · 18/06/2019 20:10

I know now! But I didn't and I've never put them in a bag and never had any problem

CaptainButtock · 18/06/2019 20:12

Jeeez what a palava 😲Been years since I’ve flown and now I’ve got another reason not to.

CoolCarrie · 18/06/2019 20:14

She could put a small amount of foundation in a contact lens case if you have one? Fill both sides of it and That way she has the colour and type she wants, incase she can’t get it after security in the Airport. I did that, filled both sides with foundation, and it was enough and fitted in the bag.

chemenger · 18/06/2019 20:16

Everything that you can spray or pour needs to go in the liquid bag as well as anything that is a cream or paste. It depends on the airport to a certain extent, I saw someone lose a brand new unopened foundation last week because they didn’t use a liquids bag, also someone with two bags being made to consolidate into one, both in the UK. On the other hand in the US you don’t need a liquids bag, as far as I can tell.

GreyCloud0 · 18/06/2019 20:16

I went with easyJet this weekend and I had 1 clear bag that didn’t seal shut. No one cared and I didn’t get stopped. I just dumped it in the box with my coat, phone, passport etc

I also went last year and took 2 clear bags, same thing. I wouldn’t worry to much to be honest

fruitbrewhaha · 18/06/2019 20:17

I have taken more than one see through bag through security. On more than one occasion. I have also forgotten to put makeup in the bag and they just pop it all into one for you. It needs to seal to be able to insert a nozzle which sucks out the air inside and analyses it for explosives.

Nextphonewontbesamsung · 18/06/2019 20:20

Good lord! and yet the shoe bomber got through ...

It’s not the airline, it’s the airport that makes the difference (and the people doing the scanning). Edinburgh seems to have tightened up recently.
