Doctor keeps fobbing me off! Symptoms, anyone else?

Ironmansmyhero · 18/06/2019 17:00

I'm posting here for traffic,

I'm a regular poster, but name change for fear of outing.

I'm literally at my wits end, I'm backwards and forwards from the doctors all of the time. I have a long history including multiple open heart surgeries. All of that is stable atm.
Anyway, I have these symtoms:
Heavy sweating with the slightest of activities, can't even clean the house without excessive sweating.
Red patches that itch on my heads with change of temperature.
Aches In joints.
Nausea.
Memory fog.
Spotty back and face, mostly white spots.
Extreme fatigue and low mood.

That's just a few, but by far the worst. Now I have servere anxiety, but have for a while and I've lived with that, tried medication and nothing works for me. I've had regular blood tests and all fine.

That doctor just keeps telling me they are all symptoms of anxiety and to try mindfulness. I have and I still struggle, the symptoms never get better.
I go back and it's the same thing every time.

Does anyone have a clue, or had any of these symptoms and received a diagnosis?

I just want to cry, I'm a full time student have a part time job and a mum to four kids. I have a burst of energy every so often, but most of the time I struggle to cope and keep up to the house. Oh and I'm a single parent so I get seldom help.

Advice pleaseSad

If you have an open appointment with your cardiologist and don't get any substantive progress tomorrow, it might be an idea to see your cardiologist as soon as convenient on the back of the significant increase in fatigue.

Ironmansmyhero · 18/06/2019 19:28

@Zilla1
Yes I've had it all, to no avail of answers.
I have an appointment with my cardiologist next month, hopefully everything on that front is fine, because if it's not, that would mean more surgery.

If you have not been given a full print out of all your bloods with ranges then do ask for that as it can be very enlightening.

Zilla1 · 18/06/2019 19:37

What did the FBC show concerning WBC or whatever terminology in your jurisdiction?

Cornettoninja · 18/06/2019 19:38

Do make sure you tell your cardiologist about your symptoms, if they’re not heart related they may be able to recommend a specialist referral to your GP.

To be honest your symptoms could relate to a lot of different conditions. To my (non-medical professional) mind they sound awfully familiar to a lot of immune conditions but without an over riding symptom it’s a bit needle in a haystack although a haematologist may have some luck narrowing it down a bit but without a specific blood result to trigger a referral I don’t fancy your chances of getting a referral. A dermatologist might be able to help with the visible skin issues and sweating, and again they may have an idea of any other issues it could be related to.

I had symptoms like this for about a year and was fobbed off continually. It turned out to be Endometriosis. I had 3 Endometriomas including one on my bowel. The first two have been removed and awaiting the bowel one.
I also had weight gain around the middle, utter exhaustion and twisting and pinching feeling in my stomach.

Ironmansmyhero · 18/06/2019 19:43

Thank you!
White blood count is fine. I had a major heart infection which caused all my heart issues. They keep a close eye on that even if it is just slightly out.

I've taken all this on board and will have a chat with the GP and cardiologist.

To me, the term “fobbing off” conjures up images of nobody listening, nor arranging any tests. Whereas in your case it sounds like you have had multiple blood tests done.

I’d write a list of your symptoms, perhaps see a different GP. Or change practice if you really are unhappy with your care. It may be worthwhile asking if you can be referred to a general medical clinic at a local hospital for another opinion. Not all areas have these, but ours does, and referrals can be made for patients with symptoms that don’t fit into a particular box.

Ironmansmyhero · 18/06/2019 19:46

@lavenderbluedilly
Sorry I maybe should have worded it differently in hindsight. I was just expressing I'm fed up.

That's interesting I've never heard of that before.

Just to say magnesium can be helpful for restless legs.

Neverplayleapfrogwithaunicorn · 18/06/2019 19:49

I also had restless legs as one of the endometriomas was pressing on the nerve of my leg. My skin became dreadful due to the hormone imbalance also

JessicaWakefieldSV · 18/06/2019 19:50

Hi. I haven’t read all the responses, just the OP ones.

I had chronic issues that the doctor fobbed me off for, and they turned out to be quite serious chronic hormone problems. I went to a private doctor who did proper hormone tests, NHS tend to just go with the basics and aren’t good at reading them. If you can afford it, I would look for a private endocrinologist. Just to be absolutely sure it’s not thyroid or menopause related- anxiety is a symptom of perimenopause and of adrenal dysfunction.
If you can’t afford a private doctor, I use medichecks.com and think you should get a full thyroid panel, a female hormone test and saliva cortisol tests.
They will add doctors notes to your results. You might like to read the sections on this website about interpreting lab results: stopthethyroidmadness.com

Never accept a Doctor fobbing you off. If you don’t feel well, absolutely get to the bottom of it.

lljkk · 18/06/2019 19:55

Some of those symptoms can be caused by anxiety.

Could you post here a picture of your white spotiness?

Ironmansmyhero · 18/06/2019 20:01

@JessicaWakefieldSV thankyou,

I may look into private for an initial consultation see if it would be worth it.

This is the best photo I could get, didn't want to take one of my face.
But they are very similar and are usually worse I have different flares ups never consistent.

I've also tried a thousand different spot creams, diets, water, tea trea and sudacream. Nothing has worked. It has to be something internal.

mindutopia · 18/06/2019 20:23

Psoriatic arthritis is one possiblity. Also what were your vitamin D levels? Mine were ‘normal’ but only by 1 point. I had fatigue and joint pain and brain fog and literally couldn’t get out of bed and thought I was going to die. I was that ill, even with borderline levels. So it could be a contributing factor.

apostropheuse · 18/06/2019 20:35

Do you take beta blockers for your heart problems? I was taking them for an arrythmia and had uncontrollable sweats, my head and face in particular. The cardiologist took me off them and put me on a calcium channel blocker and the sweats completely disappeared.

BlackeyedGruesome · 18/06/2019 20:46

sweating and unable to control your own heating system can be caused by.... Dysautonomia may be linked to hypermobility syndrome: which also causes joint pains and fatigue. you would need to read up on several things people have suggested and think through what could be a best fit. some things that you think are minor may be symptoms.

BlackeyedGruesome · 18/06/2019 20:49

I also suggest writing down all symptoms that you have.

sometimes you have to ask them to tell you why it is not x condition you are worried about.

medics can be very relaxed about getting a diagnosis sometimes, or it appears to the lay patient who wants certainty and some improvement.

Abouttime1978 · 18/06/2019 20:50

Ask for a print out of your blood results.

Thyroid problems can often be missed if only the TSH is done.

ColaFreezePop · 18/06/2019 21:18

You likely have a combination of issues which is why your symptoms and signs are confusing. It happened to me.

Did you have a proper iron screen? You said you had your haemoglobin checked but did you have your ferritin checked?

My current practice tests both in patients with repeat anaemia, and uses a lower ferritin level higher than the lab range.

Oh and when I was vitamin D deficient I had nasty spots before I developed really horrible skin, hair and nails. In my area the lab range is 75 but different labs - I've had to get my vitamin D tested privately - use lower levels. The GPs at my practice say a lower level isn't ok.

origamiwarrior · 18/06/2019 21:50

Did the onset of symptoms correspond with a course of the antibiotic ciprofloxacin? Sounds a bit like fluorquinolone toxicity syndrome.

InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream · 18/06/2019 22:05

Have you been tested for autoimmune disorders like lupus? Have they considered that as a cause for your cardiac infection?

CaptainJaneway62 · 18/06/2019 22:26

Write everything down and show it to your Cardiologist.
Let him help with the process of elimination!

If he thinks it's not related he can refer you to Endocrinology to check hormone imbalances or Immunologist.
