To be in awe at what a show off this dad was

I'm just back from taking my youngest to the paddling pool/splash park at the leisure centre. It's for under eights, so the morning session is full of the usual assortment of parents with babies and toddlers

This very muscled, tattooed dad was there with his toddler son. He was definitely performance parenting, chucking the child around, hooraying all over the place, and quite obviously looking round to check that everyone else was watching him. He was being a bit of a pain, to be honest, perching on top of the giant mushroom spouting water thing, jumping off, making huge waves which caused a mini tsunami to hit the babies in their floaty things, that sort of nonsense. I could see a few of the other mums rolling their eyes. The pool is not huge and is really not the place for that sort of bouncing around.

Imagine our surprise when this idiot then dropped to the ground in the shallowest end of the splash pool and started doing press ups complete with loud grunting and hand claps, and yells of "come on, Child's Name! Time me, time me! Huh! Huh! Huh!" I think he got to about twenty

Child in question was sitting under a stream of water looking utterly baffled.

Everyone was like this Confused

Bloody press ups in the paddling pool!

Sounds like no one in the pool was giving him the attention he needed 😂

Puppytooth · 18/06/2019 15:55

Really hope the realisation that he is a massive twat will smack him in the face one day - unfortunately I don’t think epiphanies would enter a twattish mind though...
MauisHouseOnMaui - oh dear God, the thought of parents doing warm ups before a parents race is vomit inducing!

Scorpvenus1 · 18/06/2019 15:57

That's so sad.

I bet he really rates himself.

foreverhanging · 18/06/2019 16:03

When I was younger we had a parents against kids rounders game. My dad was extremely competitive and a massive fucking show off so obviously he was dead serious about it all. He hit the ball, and legged it, and took out one of the kids on the bases, so what he did was pick the kid up (!) and run with him to the end to stop him from falling over! I never lived it down. The image of my 6'4 dad running along with one of my classmates under his arm just so he could win Blush

Isatis · 18/06/2019 16:05

Was he doing push-ups in the pool? If so, I'd have been tempted to get the lifeguard to tell him off for doing something that is inherently likely to make him sweaty in the water that the children were using.

CanoeDoYouThinkYouAre · 18/06/2019 16:08

We went ice skating last year and there were a pair of absolute performance twat Dads properly showing off, jumps, twirls, the whole lot.

I was not the only person who burst out laughing when one of them fell over. I don't normally laugh at others misfortune but in this case i felt I needed to make an exception.

MsTSwift · 18/06/2019 16:08

Brilliant. I find dads much worse (better?) at show off parenting. We were in a restaurant and a dad was making such a show off fuss about taking his toddler outside to ride his balance bike. Even dh was eye rolling and muttered “just go man we don’t all need to hear about it” but then our youngest 10 and we quite over babies and toddlers

GummyGoddess · 18/06/2019 16:12

Was the child even old enough to understand the concept of timing someone?

minou123 · 18/06/2019 16:14

Time me, time me! Huh! Huh! Huh!" I think he got to about twenty

I'm actually quite jealous I didnt get to see this Grin

category12 · 18/06/2019 16:16

Grin Aww bless he thought he was great, didn't he?

CarolDanvers · 18/06/2019 16:16

Grin I never laugh at MN posts, ever, a smirk is the most you'd usually get from me but this did make me snort. I love performance parenters though, they really liven things up.

BananasAreTheSourceOfEvil · 18/06/2019 16:20

Bahahaha! Brilliant! I’d have paid to have seen that.

elliejjtiny · 18/06/2019 16:21

Ha ha love it. There is a dad at my dc's school who comes to sports day in his running gear and warms up before the parents race. Sports day will be a lot more boring when his dc leave.

Sparklesocks · 18/06/2019 16:21

His poor toddler DS was probably baffled, what a bellend dad!

imagrumpalo · 18/06/2019 16:25

Reminds me of the time I saw a bloke performance parenting doing the food shop and we kept awkwardly bumping into each other. But he'd start as soon as I was near....Like how do we spell carrots, what colour are carrots, carrots are one of our five a day blah blah but so dramatic, loud, ott and literally grinning at me, not his child.

His wife pipes up "give it a fucking rest mike, no one's buying it". I also just wanted to take her for a coffee, she just looked so sick of this man child. Sad

MustardScreams · 18/06/2019 16:26

I hate this! I was in aldi the other day trying to mind my own business and a woman was in the cheese aisle shrieking at her children about yogurts and asparagus.

“Darling!! Get the asparagus for dinner, mustn’t forget it! I know how much you adore it!” etc etc about everything she put in the trolley. Just shut the fuck up would you love.

Slightlyjaded · 18/06/2019 16:42

LOVE a bit of PP. And men do seem to be the best at it...

I suppose there is an element of "Behold, I am a male with a child. Look! No adult female in sight and yet here I am doing bonding/nutrition/baby-Latin ALL BY MYSELF. Yes that's right Ladies, I am pushing a trolly whilst in expensive running gear whilst simultaneously reciting the names of all the fruit and veg in seven languages whilst encouraging my small mini-me to recall (as loudly as possible) all the capital cities in Africa and South America".

Twats

Soubriquet · 18/06/2019 16:59

I think I would have laughed at him really

PeapodBurgundy · 18/06/2019 17:03

baby-Latin Grin

AshGirl · 18/06/2019 17:12

@imagrumpalo "give it a fucking rest mike, no one's buying it".

This is genius Grin

HippyTrails · 18/06/2019 17:14

I wish i'd seen this, hilarious - they have no clue at all that people are looking at them out of amusement rather than awe

CripsSandwiches · 18/06/2019 17:17

I'm really embarrassed for him!

MrsMozartMkII · 18/06/2019 17:19

That would've made me laugh so much.

JemSynergy · 18/06/2019 17:23

How funny! Grin. I feel sorry for his wife, I would be SO embarrassed.

squeaver · 18/06/2019 17:46
