What's a polite way of saying STFU while eating!! Hate being stuck in an office with someone who can't chew without chomping and clapping their lips together!! (eating an apple so also have slurrping sounds as well)

Oh yeah what's my AIBU?? to just say STFU!!!

I think I would have to say something! Maybe just 'ooh that's a very juicy/ crunchy apple isn't it'?.

I did this the other day to someone slurping their tea- 'is your tea a bit hot there?!' He laughed, then made more of an effort.

gettofuckthrees · 18/06/2019 10:39

I feel you OP.

I can't stand other people eating like Trollops. Just stare in disgust and if she asked you what's up say, "oh I thought you were wanting an audience considering the wood fucking show your putting on there"

gettofuckthrees · 18/06/2019 10:40

Epic not wood. What a strange typo GrinBlush

GruciusMalfoy · 18/06/2019 10:48

It depends on the person and your delivery. Could you get away with a cheeky, "Could you chew a bit louder? They can't quite hear you on the 5th floor!"

BigSandyBalls2015 · 18/06/2019 10:54

Gross, my boss eats like a pig and the rest of the office can't get their head around it as his partner is very high up in their job, involving lots of swanky dinners in very nice places, just can't see how he fits in there.

KittenMittens1 · 18/06/2019 11:08

misophonia!- hating the sound of people eating.

Literally have to leave the office when people eat, either that or they have a stapler shaped bruise on their heads.

KittenMittens1 · 18/06/2019 11:10

just for giggles (fromgoogle obvs haha)

Misophonia is a disorder in which certain sounds trigger emotional or physiological responses that some might perceive as unreasonable given the circumstance. Those who have misophonia might describe it as when a sound “drives you crazy.” Their reactions can range from anger and annoyance to panic and the need to flee

ChocoholicsAsylum · 18/06/2019 11:13

There is videos on youtube and its of people eating... for "relaxing asmr purposes" Confused or just "mouthsounds" ... fucking disgusting!

Hearthside · 18/06/2019 11:13

I feel your pain. I seriously can't bear noisy eaters. Smacking lips and scraping spoons against bottom of a bowl.I have to leave the room truly grates 🙈.

piefacedClique · 18/06/2019 11:13

“Ooooo.... that’s sounds delicious”

MashedSpud · 18/06/2019 11:16

Send them a link to a noisy eating video on YouTube and suggest they make their own.

Esmereldapawpatrol · 18/06/2019 11:22

I totally get where you are coming from and would want to do the same! So YWNBU to tell them to STFU, nicely of course Wink

My MIL eats with her mouth open and shoves her food in, gets it all around her mouth etc, I now just make sure I am not sat opposite her at any meals as it really puts me off my food!

Ginkypig · 18/06/2019 11:28

I force myself to keep my mouth shut because I agree it's very annoying to hear it but it actually makes eating very hard because I can't breath through my nose due to multiple breaks in the past (dv relationship etc) so the reality is while I chew I can't breath if my mouth stays closed. Sad

For someone who has working anatomy though, ye fucking rude!

Bluebell9 · 18/06/2019 11:31

Do you work in my office??

The woman opposite me eats with her mouth open and it is so loud!!

She loves crispy crunchy food the best, such as apples, celery and crisps. She also eats boiled sweets the same way.

The worst part is when she wanders over to my desk to interrupt my work chat to me whilst eating something and leaves half chewed food sprayed on my desk!

IfIwereable · 18/06/2019 11:33

Thankfully she finished the apple quite quickly

This is why I go out of the office for lunch, can't stand to hear the chomping, to make it worse she normally calls her DH on lunch so the talking loudly and chewing combination makes me want scream!! My DC know how to eat properly why can't a 30+ old woman!!

I seem to work with people who eat all the time. Chomp, chomp. It's never ending. Some of them eat like dogs who have been starved, it's gross.

I suffer from misophonia. I hate typing too. Gives me the rage.

I don't suit working in an office.

stupidorparanoid · 18/06/2019 11:52

I feel your pain! I had someone come for an interview and sat chewing her gum loudly all through the interview. I couldn't even look at her...and I had to be polite and finish interviewing her but after 2 mins I knew she weren't gonna get the job!

CanCanCanYouDoThe · 18/06/2019 11:57

“Sounds like you’re really enjoying that Janet”

category12 · 18/06/2019 12:00

Is misophonia an actual thing or is it just being really intolerant? Before anyone kills me, I have it too and I have a visceral reaction to certain noises. Even people breathing sometimes.

AudacityOfHope · 18/06/2019 12:07

I am currently eating prawns at my desk, along with a crunchy salad. I'm sure you'd all hate me!

TaighNamGastaOrt · 18/06/2019 12:08

Yes, this is me too! Our office is also the break room/staff room so lunchtime is horrendous! what a racket! I can't really say anything sarky or subtle as I work with autistic people and folk with anxiety, so me asking them to shut their mouths really isn't going to help!

So I have developed coping methods-my fave is going to the loo and cleaning it!! For 30 mins! It works! if I have to stay in office tho, I have a heater or a fan ready to switch on to cover the racket!

I've had one lad come over to my desk whilst making such a racket eating something, I had to say 'can you close your mouth!'
Was cruel of me to say it, but I felt stabby rage with that right in my ear! Bless him, he doesnt understand social clues at all.

TaighNamGastaOrt · 18/06/2019 12:14

Oh, and misophonia is a thing. its not intolerance. Its part of my anxiety ironically.I can't be in the same room as anyone noisy eating-the noise causes me great stress and I need to leave.
Its not personal, I cannot stay near the noise, trying to ignore it causes me to panic sweat and hide in myself. I'm not risking a panic attack or my own mental health.

misscockerspaniel · 18/06/2019 12:14

Scraping yoghurt pots and cereal bowls (using up the milk meant for the tea and coffee, another gripe). Aarrghh.
