To think Richard Madden can still be Bond even if he comes out?

Seriously, in this day and age, should it matter?

OP posts:

Of course he can still be bond.
I didn’t realise he was gay?

SemperIdem · 16/06/2019 20:39

No it shouldn’t matter, and largely won’t in more liberal Western countries.

Russia, China, many African countries etc ? Yes, it will matter and will likely damage the franchise. Sad, shocking but at the moment true. Whether the franchise has the backbone to go ahead anyway will be telling.

Magicpaintbrush · 16/06/2019 20:41

Didn't he used to date Jenna Coleman?? Or am I imagining that?

Nothingsuitsmelikeasuit · 16/06/2019 20:42

I think some (homophobic) people don’t understand what ‘acting’ is!

Ivegotthree · 16/06/2019 20:42

He was said to date Jenna Coleman.

Sort of thing PRs put out there when bigging up a rising star.

LikeDolphinsCanSwin · 16/06/2019 20:43

Yeah, Bond is a global product. Sadly there are many parts of the world in which it does matter.

Trills · 16/06/2019 20:45

Richard Madden being Bond would be quite boring, IMO.

Bond is boring. It needs something to mix up for formula.

Now if the character was gay, that might make it a bit more interesting.

The actor being gay? Not so much.

Mysterian · 16/06/2019 20:46

He wouldn't be the only gay action hero, so him playing Bond wouldn't be an impossible mission.

Ontheboardwalk · 16/06/2019 20:47

Has Richard Madden spoken about his sexuality or is this thread making up his story for him?

BeanBag7 · 16/06/2019 20:48

Richard Madden can do better!

Broombroomshaketheroom · 16/06/2019 20:49

Bond is SO boring now though. Every film just gets more dull :(

Bluntness100 · 16/06/2019 20:55

I think he's more likely to be bi as he did have a long term relarionship with a woman, but either way who cares. He's right to keep his personal life private,it's nothing to do with anyone if he's romantically involved with Brandon Flynn, whom he lives with.

It's sod all do to do with his ability to act or the role he plays.

I don't think he's right for bond though. Not sure. Just don't think he's got it.

noodlenosefraggle · 16/06/2019 20:55

I think the Bond people would be more ridiculous and out of date than they are already if they didn't give him Bond for that reason. The problem is that they can just give the job to someone else and not say its for that reason.
He did date Jenna Coleman, for a long time. I don't believe she would beard for him (even tough my knowledge of her comes from watching Doctor Who!!) so I think hes possibly bi. He hasn't come out, but hes not hiding it in any way, or talking about his sexuality, and good for him. Its time studios stopped pandering to the Homophobic for money.

SemperIdem · 16/06/2019 21:12

Agree the studios do need to address it noodle. However, we’re not talking Dave and the lads down the pub being homophobic about a gay actor. Homosexuality is illegal in 73 countries, punishable by death in 13. Astonishing numbers.

Worldwide there is a long way to go in terms of standing up to homophobia.

TheRedBarrows · 16/06/2019 21:30

I have only just finished boggling having mis-read the title as Richard Madeley....,

greenlloon · 16/06/2019 21:47

yabu to say someones gay when you have no idea.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 16/06/2019 21:49

Mysterian loving your work

Of course, but the way to deal with that isn't to pander to it, but present the piece of work, made by the best people for the job. If they want it, they take it. At the moment, they are so desperate to make as much money as possible they are forcing people into the closet and breaking equality laws.
Madden, I dont think is a great actor, but neither is Daniel Craig or any of the other Bonds bar Pierce Brosnan. Its an opportunity for OK actors to make a shitload of money they wouldnt otherwise make.

Polyjuice · 16/06/2019 21:59

Why is it wrong to say someone’s gay? It’s not an insult! Even if it’s mistaken. What a silly remark.
Richard Madden however, I thought he was definitely in a relationship or “inseparable from” another male actor no?
