to buy La Mer?

I was given a free sample recently and fell in love. I googled it and knew it would be expensive, but wow. It's mega money! I can afford it (just) but don't know if it's worth it. I mean how good can a skin cream really be?

Does anyone use it? Is it really amazing?

Look at the ingredients there's nothing special in it. Lots of far cheaper moisturisers will be just as effective. But if you have the money and can afford it then YANBU.

I'm not loaded, that's why I'm umming and erring. I used the free sample like it was Nivea and had no idea how expensive a product it was. My skin is so dry and it's the only cream I've ever found that works. I'm so gutted it costs so much. It's the consistency more than anything else. It's thick and almost greasy.

If anyone can suggest anything else with same texture (similar to bodyshop hemp thickness) that's cheaper i would be willing to try!

I'm not loaded but treated myself to a pot a while ago.

Nivea blue tub much better and infinitely cheaper Smile

I tried Aldi and it just doesn't work for my skin. I find it too thin. I like a good thick almost greasy moisturiser. My skin is so dry that if I don't moisturise as soon as I get out of the shower it gets flakey and tight. I was previously using hemp hand cream from body shop on my face!

I remember all the celebrities jumped on the bandwagon years ago and we were led to believe it was some miracle product.

Try the Also moisturiser in Pratt's post and save the money.

ChessIsASport · 15/06/2019 08:27

I like Skin Food by Weleda. It is very thick and good for very dry skin.

ZaraW · 15/06/2019 08:29

Sorry should have been Pesty's post bloody auto-correct.....

motortroll · 15/06/2019 08:31

@newfaces

I use the hemp hand cream in my face too. And legs after shaving. Love that stuff! Just keep using that??

Jebuschristchocolatebar · 15/06/2019 08:33

Embyrolis probably spelt wrong is great. French brand but you get it in boots online. Not expensive so might be worth a try.

Fairylea · 15/06/2019 08:35

Good old astral cream is pretty good if you want something thick and greasy!

LaMarschallin · 15/06/2019 08:36

Not unreasonable unless it keeps the food out of the wee bairns' mouths....
Seriously, if you feel it's going to make your skin better and nothing else comes close, buy it if you can afford it.
Maybe you'd feel better if it was a birthday present or something (even if it is a touch early 🙂).
I know there's a huge placebo factor in skin care for me. Logically, I know that Aldi moistuiser would do just as well but I feel better for using something a bit more expensive (not CDLM though).

One of my friends is a consultant dermatologist and they say all your skin needs is to be kept clean, moisturised and slathered in SPF every day.
Mind you, they also refuse to start up a cosmetic practice and try out their Botox and fillers techniques on me, so what do they know, unhelpful git!? Smile

PestyMachtubernahme · 15/06/2019 08:37

If your skin is that dry you probably need to change your whole routine. Plus have a look at what you are eating.

Eucerin dry skin range www.boots.com/eucerin/eucerin-dry-skin contains urea and sorts out dry skin.

For the luxurious treat try Neal's Yard Wild Rose Balm £40 a pop, so fairly expensive but does last.

straighttalker33 · 15/06/2019 08:37

Try Keihl's, it's still a bit on the pricey side but nowhere near as pricey as La Mer. Mario Badescu stuff is also great.

Processedpea · 15/06/2019 08:38

How about Elemis marine cream. Lots of offers on qvc

NurseButtercup · 15/06/2019 08:39

Do you use a face serum? I would recommend using one of the Aldi face serum plus the Aldi face cream. I think you'll be surprised by the outcome. Plus it's still cheaper than La Mer.

UpToonGirl · 15/06/2019 08:39

Have a look on the S&B board at the vaseline thread. Haven't tried it (yet) myself but plenty of posters raving about it - you would put it on over your usual moisturiser just before bed.

Might be worth a try before you splash out.

Also for whatever reason I often find samples (especially moisturisers) are more effect than the full sized product. I don't know why!

redastherose · 15/06/2019 08:44

The original Nivea in the blue tub is great. Sounds like the same consistency too.

newfaces · 15/06/2019 08:54

Loads of advice here thank you. Think I'm going to look at Kiehls first as that was my second option. Or get every one of my friends to book a La Mer consultation and give them a fiver each for their free samples 🤣

Astral is the best. I've used expensive creams and potions in the past but honestly Astral is so much better and couple quid a pot

MustardScreams · 15/06/2019 09:09

But it if you love it, life is too short to not love what you put on your face.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 15/06/2019 09:11

I’ll go agains the grain bit if that’s what you want then get it.

If you enjoyed using it and you feel it’s done your good then do it.

You will get a substitute and will feel cheated. It’s only a pot of cream.

Skittlesss · 15/06/2019 09:12

I love It Cosmetics Confidence in a cream. It has a thick consistency and makes my skin beautiful. You could get it from QVC - they have a 30 day money back guarantee, so if you don’t like it then you can return it.

You are not nearly as unreasonable as La Mer is.

Spend a ton of cash on another really nice moisturiser and still pay 1/5 of the price of La Mer.
